Show SPORTS HS beats Skyline rhe SDrineville Red favor of SDrineville running The Springville Red Devils Baseball Team defeated defeat-ed their second 5A opponent in two weeks. This week's victim was the Skyline Eagles Ea-gles by a score of 4-2. The Devils jumped out to an early lead when Aaron Jensen doubled to left field and BJ Crane doubled Jensen home. Down 2 strikes in the count, Trevyn Smith squirted a single into right field to score Crane and the Devils were up 2-0 in the second inning. The lead wouldn't last long as the Eagles benefited from a bad hop single and a passed ball to even up the scoring at 2-2 by the end of the inning. Mark Pawelek came in to relieve Aaron Jensen of the pitching duties. Mark and Skyline pitcher Alex Duncan were engaged in a pitchers' duel for the next 4 innings. Finally the Devils broke through in the 7th inning. Crane and Smith both walked before Pawelek singled. With the bases loaded and 1 out, both Justin Simkins and Alex Beals were hit by pitches to bring in 2 runs. A well-positioned 2nd baseman for Skyline prevented the inning from being bigger for the Devils when Dustin Ercan-brack Ercan-brack lined out to end the inning. The final score was 4-2 in Dan Bulow Red Devil Spotlight by Nick Killpack Dan Bulow, son of Bill and Anittra Bulow of Maple-ton, Maple-ton, is a senior this year and the starting catcher for the Red Devil Baseball Team. Aside of being an outstanding catcher, I believe that his biggest strength comes from his hitting. A powerful player play-er and a great teammate, Dan is fun to watch. Not only is a great athlete, but he also maintains a 3.7 GPA and plans on attending college after he is finished with high school. One of Dan's favorite things about baseball is catching cat-ching for his best buddie Aaron. When asked what he likes most about playing baseball, he replied, "What's not to like? I love the coaches, coach-es, the fans, the intensity, the excitement and most of all my teammates!" Aaron Jensen Red Devil Spotlight by Nick Killpack Aaron Jensen, son of Karl and Carol Jensen of Springville, Spring-ville, is a senior this year and the starting pitcher for the Red Devil Baseball Team. Throwing a fierce 93 mph fastball, he is the talk of the town. An athlete like this is sure to get major attention from the colleges and universities univer-sities from around the country. coun-try. Unfortunately, for those interested other schools he has already signed on with Brigham Young University, so it appears as though we are going to be seeing a lot more of our home town boy in the near future. When I asked him to give me a quote about baseball, re replied, "Yogi Berra once said, 'It's good to let the batter know that the pitcher's a little bit crazy." The Springville Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Springville City and the Hobble Creek Golf Course, are sponsoring this event to raise money for scholarships for Springville High School students. Marcia Harris, this year's chamber president said, "The Chamber of Commerce, for the past three years, has tried to give a scholarship to two outstanding high school seniors. It has been hard to raise money to fund this project, and we have only had about $500 to give away." With that in mind, Duane Roberts, manager of the Cracker Barrel suggested that the Chamber have a golf tournament in hopes of raising rais-ing more money to go towards to-wards scholarships at Springville Spring-ville High. Spanish Fork has been very successful with their tournament in the past. This year's tournament is scheduled for April 25 and individual cost will be $85. This will include green fees for the day, a golf cart, a T-shirt, T-shirt, tee prize, lunch buffet provided by Cracker Barrel, drinks provided by Pepsi, and dinner after the event. Harris pointed out that "For the money, this is a very good cause and should be a great day of golf for everyone."
