Show Mailman RfllkiB is re WDM After 35 years of vivil service, ser-vice, Mike Hill is retiring! Many "of you know Mike as the mail man. Mike started his civil service career in August 1964 with the Bureau of Reclamation, working pn the Central Utah Water Project. Pro-ject. Most of his time was spent surveying the Starvation Dam. He1 later worked on the Lake Mead project in Nevada. He and his family lived in Duchesne, Utah and Henderson, Nevada during this time. He transferred to the postal service in 1970 starting in American Fork. After working there for two years he transferred to the Springville office. He has also worked as a clerk in Provo. As a city carrier he has deliv- ered mail throughout Springville. He has enjoyed this part of his job because it has enabled him to get to know the people of Spring- 1 ville. He has made a lot of friends and acquaintances over the past 30 years. He always took a minute to stop and talk to the children on his routes. It made them feel like they were important to him and they were. He gave special care to the senior citizens in town. Many of them looked forward to him stopping by with their mail and friendly "hello, how are you today." Sometimes he was their only contact during the day. He ' shared their joy and happiness with them, their grief and their pain. He enjoyed their friendship most of all. One thing he always tried to do was to make friends with the dogs on his routes, especially the puppies. He felt that if he made friends with them it was a lot better than having one of them bite him! He is known by many citizens, kids and dogs as he has made his way around the city each day. Usually on a bicycle, Mike had a friendly smile and some kind words for everyone. Thank you Mike. his route. Some thought he would take them for a ride when they climbed in his mail truck. Mike liked to ride a bike to deliver the mail. You could see him come rain or shine, sleet or snow on that bike making his rounds. Many of his customers would tease him about riding the bike instead of being in the mail truck, especially during the foul weather. Michael Reed Hill was born and raised in Spanish Fork, Utah to Reed and Marie Hill. He -15 project update The Utah Department of Transportation advises Utah County motorists of current construction activities on the I-15Provo I-15Provo Widening project, between the SR-75 interchange in ' Springville and Provo Center Street. The contractor continues several significant operations throughout the project, working primarily during daytime hours. 1 UDOT reminds motorists that the speed limit is reduced to 55 m.p.h. through the project. To increase safety for all motorists, please obey the posted speed limit and drive through the work zone with caution. On mainiine 1-15, crews continue work on the new alignment align-ment behind the barrier in the southbound lanes and barrier " work in the northbound lanes. All lanes are open during daytime"' hours, but northbound andor' southbound 1-15 may be restricted restrict-ed to one lane during overnight hours, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. graduated from Spanish Fork High School and attended Snow College and UVSC. He married LaRae Diamond of Springville. They are the parents of five children: Roni Goodell. Kim Johnson, Heather Anderson, Jackie Lynn Hill (deceased) and John Hill. They have eleven grandchildren. Retirement won't find Mike rocking in a chair. He'll be rocking rock-ing on a lake in a boat or fly fishing is a stream. Crews are also building the median crossover south of the SR-75Springvil!e interchange. All southbound lanes are open. Significant work continues at the interchanges, particulaily University Avenue where crews are building the ramp alignments and preparing to place concrete. Two ramps-one each at the University Avenue and SR-75-Springville interchanges-are - sdduledo be closed theweek-eridof theweek-eridof May20-22' for crews to complete excavation, grading, roadbase and paving work. The following ramps will be closed from 8 p.m. Sat.. The dedicated lane from southbound University Avenue merges left into the southbound I-15 I-15 lanes. Please watch for signs and merge safely. As a general rule for the project, two traffic lanes are maintained on northbound and southbound 1-15 during daytime peak hours, between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Lane closures are scheduled sched-uled during off-peak, overnight hours only.
