Show p " 1 I i If , I ; ! ft , " I. i Million book goal met Kyle Nay, son of Kyrt and Grace Anne Nay of Mapleton, will receive his Eagle Scout Award on Tuesday, October 12, 1999 at 7 p.m. at a court of Honor to be held at the New Heritage Church, 1600 N. Main, in Mapleton. For his Eagle project, Kyle made disposable dis-posable backboards for the Mapleton Ambulance. Fourteen percent of all Detroit workers are employed in the automotive industry. He thanks his Scout Leaders, Bruce Palmer - and John Crandall, for helping make Scouting a great experience. It takes twenty years to make an overnight success. Eddie Cantor Ted Williams, Boston Red Sox outfielder, won six batting titles and was the last major leaguer to hit over 400. Cracker Barrel Old Country Store wraps up its 30th anniversary anniver-sary festivities this month with the successful completion of its Neighborhood Book Drive, which netted nearly 1.1 million books throughout . August-easily surpassing sur-passing the drive's goal of a million books. The book drive concludes a summer filled with anniversary activities for Cracker Barrel, including sponsorship of country music star Faith Hill's "This Kiss" concert tour to 30-plus cities this summer. The Neighborhood Book Drive was conducted in partnership partner-ship with the Faith Hill Family Literacy Project, the national health alliance VHA Inc. and America's Promise-The Alliance for Youth, the organization led by retired General Colin Powell, which is dedicated to strengthening strengthen-ing the character and competence of our nation's youth. "I'm thrilled-and more than a little overwhelmed-by the generous gener-ous support of Cracker Barrel guests and employees around the country who made this book drive such a success," Hill said. "Thanks to this fantastic effort, hundreds of communities will have the tools needed to fight illiteracy. It's wonderful that Cracker Barrel stepped forward to support this important cause." Throughout August anddue to popular demand-the first week of September, guests donated nearly 1 . 1 million books at Cracker Cra-cker Barrel's 400-plus locations in 37 states. The books, most of which will remain in the local communities from which they were collected, are being redistributed redis-tributed to elementary schools, hospitals, shelters for victims of domestic violence, day care centers, early childhood programs, pro-grams, youth organizations, before-and before-and after-school programs, among others. In another incident, $800 was taken from a desk in a home.
