"X ' .1 V 1 May 26, 1993 - The Springville Herald - Page Five SOCIAL EVENTS Tour historic Spring City Rose Lowe Davis Rose Davis celebrates eighty years An open house honoring Rose Davis on her 80th birthday will be held on Saturday, June 5, 1993, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Spanish Fork Senior Citizens Hall, 167 W. Center, Spanish Fork. She was born June 7, 1913 in Springville, one of 11 children born to William N. and Mary Lousia (Powell) Lowe. She married, mar-ried, Howard Miller Davis on July 2, 1935. He passed away on January 28, 1992. Her children and spouses are Harold J. and Vickie Davis, Ronald G. and Ramona Davis, Gordon P. and Daljean Davis, Judy and Mardon Connelly, Joyce and Marion Brown and Fred L. and Joanne Davis. She has 22 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Her family is please to be able to honor her on this occasion and wish to invite her friends and neighbors to visit with her. No gifts please. Your friendship friend-ship is her gift. Anniversary party held A dinner party celebrating the 50th wedding anniversary of Guy and Flora Chesnut was held. May 22, 1993. The dinner was hosted by the couple!s. five daughters, Vicki Murray, Sue Creer, Sheila Daybell, Evelyn Jensen and Theresa Miller. The 56 guests and relatives enjoyed dinner and a program, ending in dancing to the. music of Pride and Joy. The family will be taking a weekend trip to Southern Utah where the Chesnuts grew up. The Chesnuts are the grandparents grandpar-ents of eighteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Dye-Widdison wedding today Announcement is made by Dr. Douglas and Suzanne Dye of Silver City, New Mexico of the engagement of their daughter, Amy, to Mr. Jason H. Widdison, son of Jack and Jane Widdison of Mapleton. The couple plans to be married today, Wednesday, May 26, 1993 in the Manti LDS Temple. A reception will be held this evening at the Mapleton White Church, 31 W. Maple. The bride is a graduate of Silver City High School and LDS Seminary. She is currently attending Brigham Young University majoring in Early Childhood Education. She served an LDS mission in Sydney, Australia. The groom graduated from Springville High School and LDS Seminary. He is attending Utah Valley Community College majoring in Aviation Science. He is a licensed pilot. He served an LDS mission in Sydney, Australia also. Attending the bride will be Christy Werner, Sarah Finney and Julie Widdison. The groomsmen will be Steve Murdock, Jed Widdison and Joe Widdison. The couple will make their home in Springville. Lynn Hafen to ma rry Idaho girl Mr. and Mrs. Nolan Heward of Ashton, Idaho are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Kathleen, to Lynn Hafen, son of Dean and Barbara Hafen of Springville. The couple plan to be married Tuesday, June 1, 1993 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. A reception will be held that evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ashton Third Ward, Ashton, Idaho. An open house will be given June 12 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 2927 W. 6620 South, West Jordan, Utah. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. The bride-to-be graduated from North Fremont High School and attended Idaho State University. She is currently working at Technigraphics in Salt Lake City. She served an LDS mission in Milan Italy, ; ' ' "' The prospective groom graduated from Spring-1 ville High and attended Utah Valley Community College. He served an LDS mission in Coventry, England. She is the daughter of Denice Floyd of Springville and Mike Floyd of Billings, Mon tana. Tyler "Brett" Chatwin, son of Ray and Sue Cherrington Chat-win, Chat-win, will be one year old on May 28, 1993. His grandparents grandpar-ents are Paul and Christie Cherrington of Mapleton and LeRoy Chatwin of Springville. Great-grandmother is Rosie Anderson of Lake Shore. m - t- s J 1 l I 4-till Tour some of Utah's best examples of pioneer architecture on Saturday, May 29, as part of the historic Spring City "Heritage Day." Sheepherding and art flourish in this rural town just off Highway High-way 89 in Sanpete County. Because Be-cause of the concentration of early pioneer buildings, the entire town is listed as a "National Historic District". This significant signifi-cant designation is only shared with Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. Tom Carter of the Utah Historical Society stated: "Spring City is one of the best remaining examples of the Mormon village in Utah," and the "pattern of Mormon exploration and settlement settle-ment in the West and the particular particu-lar agricultural practices which accompanied village living." The Spring City Heritage Day celebration begins with a Fire-mans Fire-mans breakfast from 8-10 a.m. at the Spring City Fire Station. The stone LDS Chapel, a example of local Romanesque Revival architecture with terra cotta cherubs and a floating balcony, will be open from 12-5 p.m. Local arts and crafts will be displayed in the church social hall. A home tour and art studio tour, will also be held from 12-5 p.m., and will feature such homes as the Emil Erickson house, Orson Hyde office which is now artist Randall Lake's studio and Lee Bennion's (whose ' works are currently on display in Washington, D.C. and at the Salt Crib corner UVRMC May 5, 1993 Boy to Robert and Nancy Anderson of Springville. This beautiful home, set south of town in the newly green fields, is worth the drive itself. A new hardback history of Spring City, Life Under the Horseshoe, and homemade baked goods will also be available at the Old City hall. A family style dance with music provided by the well-travelled country, folk and bluegrass band, "Fire on the Mountain." Folks of all ages will enjoy dancing danc-ing to the Virginia Reel, line dances, polkas and other folk dances. The highlight of the evening will be a "mass" musical chair dance with prizes! This event will be held at the new Spring City Elementary School. Barbecue turkey dinner, with baked beans, potato salad, rolls, cake and homemade root beer, will be served from 5-7 p.m. in the church park.
