Show Page Four - The Springville Herald - July 8, 1992 N It Ramona and Frank Witney Witneys celebrate Frank B. and Ramona G. Witney celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary Monday, July 6, 1992 with a family party. The Witneys were married July 6, 1942 in the Manti Temple. Frank was born in Piano, Idaho and moved to Springville when he was young. He grew up and attended schools in Springville. He taught school for 30 years at Provo High School teaching Biological Sciences and serving as football and wrestling coach. He introduced the wrestling program to the school and while coaching took region championships 17 of his 19 years. He also worked four nights a week as the nightwatchman at the Pacific States Pipe Plant for many years. And he ran, with his sons, a small family farm. Ramona taught school for 12 years in Spanish Fork and Springville. Spring-ville. She enjoys working with children and served in many church positions in the Primary, Jr. Sunday School and Relief Society. The couple have enjoyed camping and fishing and hunting with their children who are Ronald, Richard, Douglas and Daniel, all of Springville. Lorene and Roy Savage Fiftieth wedding Roy and Lorene Savage of Springville are celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary Friday, July 10, 1992. Their children will honor them at an open house that evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Springville LDS Stake Center, 698 Kolob Circle. AH family and friends are invited to attend. No gifts please. They were married July 10 1942, in Springville. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Roy was born in Salt Lake City, the son of John LeRoy and Helena Savage. He grew up in Springville and graduated from Springville High School. He served in the United States Air Force from 1941 to 1945 and was in the fifth graduating class from Airplane Mechanics in Biloxi, Mississippi. He worked as a switchman switch-man for the Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years. Lorerie was born in Pleasant Grove, the daughter of Wesley C. and Lucille Maag. She graduated from Springville High School and besides being wife and mother, has always been active in various church and civic activities. They have six daughters and four sons: Mrs. John D. (Karen) Baker and Mrs. Bruce (Lori) Pickard, Orem; Mrs. Thomas E. (Dianne) Abbott, Alpine: Mrs. Gary (Susan) Mercer, Bountiful; Mrs. Clark (Paula) Curtis, Springville; and Mrs. John (Michelle) DeHaas, Mesa, AZ; Wesley L., Salt Lake City; Michael W., Payson; Conrad A., Lehi; and Richard L., Springville. They have 36 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. McEwan, son of Richard Grant and Bertha McEwan on Friday, July 10, 1992. The prospective groom graduated from Spanish Fork High School and LDS Seminary. He is employed at Reams in Springville and is a member of the Spanish Fork National Guard. The recital is free to the public Miner said. He is originally from southern California although his parents : are from Utah County. His wife Patricia, is from Springville, ancf they have six children. He was a carpenter by trade, but for health reasons he has taken up music as a profession. SHSgirl to study in Germany Jill McClausland has been chosen as a recipient of the Congress-Bundestag scholarship. Under this scholarship Jill will spend 12 months in Germany. There she will complete her senior year of high school. Her scholarship also includes a one month language camp and trips to Berlin, Bonn and Washington, D.C. This scholarship is open to all sophomores and juniors with a 3.0 grade point average or better. Applications are available in most high school counseling offices. The applications consist of several sever-al essays, a 500 word report, a short biography and a few questions. ques-tions. There are also two pages to be filled out by a teacher and another supervisor. Jill would like to personally thank Mrs. Burdett and Joye Wimmer. Applications are then sent to Salt Lake and judged until 15 are chosen semi-finalists. semi-finalists. In two separate groups, the 15 are called up to Sale Lake to be interviewed. From there five are chosen recipients and five are chosen alternates. Jill plans to leave on July 15 and return in July of the following follow-ing year. She looks forward to sending letters and pictures home about the German people and their lifestyles. Jill is the fourth Springville High student to earn the Congress-Bundestag scholarship.
