Show Valtek names qualify champions at banquet Five Valtek employees were named "Quality Champions" by their peers, as part of the company's com-pany's 1991 Recognition Banquet held at Sundance. Each year, Valtek employees vote for fellow employees known for high-quality work and positive attitudes. This year, the company's com-pany's employees named four "Quality Champions" and one "Champion of Champions". Those honored from the Provo and Springville plants were Brad Allan, Lynn McQuivey, Lora Davis, Jared Johnson and Erwin Steele. Brad Allan received the "Champion of Champions" award. He is a field service representative, rep-resentative, responsible for on-site on-site repair work. Brad worked 18 years with the company in such positions as a deburrer, stock room clerk and assembler. He has one daughter named Brooke. Originally from Springville, Brad lives in Mapleton. Lynn McQuivey joined Valtek in 1981 as a utility laborer. He served as a shipper and saw operator before becoming a stockroom stock-room clerk. As a stockroom clerk, he is responsible for cycle counting and inventory control of finished parts. Lynn and wife Charlene are the parents of eight children. Originally from Springville, Spring-ville, Lynn lives in Payson. Lora Davis is the tool room coordinator, overseeing all aspects as-pects of the tool room. During her 13 years with the company, Lora served as a utility laborer, tool room clerk and tool room attendant. Besides her daily responsibilities, re-sponsibilities, Lora is active in various employee committees for recreation, benefits and good ideas. Lora and her husband Jim live in Springville. Jared Johnson is an order administrator in the company's Power Industry group. As an order administrator, he oversees sales contracts. Jared first came to work for Valtek in 1982 as a utility laborer, continued his education and quickly advanced to his present position. Jared, wife Ansje and their two daughters daugh-ters reside in Orem. Erwin Steele is an engineering specialist, responsible for overseeing over-seeing product line. During his 13 years with the company, he has served in many engineering positions, including drafter, senior se-nior designer and drafting supervisor. super-visor. An Orem native, he lives there with wife Barbara and their six children. Valtek Incorporated is an international manufacturer of automatic control valves with headquarters in Springville. Grandparents Grandpar-ents came to school and told the children their favorite story. Heidi's grandpa told about activities he did in the snow like ice skating on the irrigation ditches and making his own skis. Annie's grandma talked about Annie being named after a great-grandmother great-grandmother who used to make 20-layer birthday cakes. Christine's grandmother told her favorite story, "Love You Forever." It is the kindergarten kid's favorite story too. Kathryn's grandma talked about delivering the newspaper when the snow was as high as fences and cars. Jeffery Graham's Grandma Alice is shown above with him. She told the children about living in Denmark, showed them pictures of Leggoland and sang Danish songs to them. The Springville-Mapleton Senior Citizens have secured a nurse for their clinic. She will start on Feb. 12 and will be at the clinic from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Appointments are required for a physical but not for blood pressure pres-sure checks. Memberships are due now and are $3. per person. The outreach worker will be at the center on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Legal Services will be there to help seniors on Jan 24. The monthly dinner will be held Jan. 31 at noon. David Gardner from Mountainland will give the program. Seniors should make reservations early by calling 489-8738. Lewis: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Trader, and The Silver Chair. They are produced by the PBS Wonder Works series, se-ries, each is three hours in length, and rents for $1. C(live) S(taples) Lewis was a scholar of theology and philosophy. philoso-phy. He published works for adults as early as 1926, but is was not until ,1950 that he published pub-lished his first children's book, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, the first of the Narnia series. The seventh and final book in the series was published in 1956. In 1951 C.S. Lewis responded to a compliment for his book. "I am glad you like The Lion. A number of mothers, and still more schoolmistresses, have decided that it is likely to frighten children, so it is not selling very well. But the real children like it, and I am astonished how some very young ones seem to understand under-stand it. I think it frightens some adults, but very few children." In 1992, parents and children alike love the Narnia series, they are some of the most popular children's books in the library. Look for The Chronicles of Narnia under Lewis in the Intermediate Inter-mediate books: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe; Price Caspian: The Return to Narnia; The Voyage of the Dawn Trader; Trad-er; The Silver Chair; The Horse and His Boy; The Magician's Nephew and The Last Battle. Special meeting for LDS region Young Women A special Young Women's Fireside will be held on Feb. 9 for all Young Women, ages 12 through 18, and their parents in the Mapleton-Springville LDS Region. The speaker for this event will be Carolyn J. Rasmus. Rasmus is currently serving as a member of the Young Women General Board and administrative assistant to the Young Women of the LDS Church. Also featured will be a Young Women's Choir made up of 100 girls from the region under the direction of Pam Tippetts.
