' 1 - f - 4 ' Ice cream plays a special role in the typical Utahn's lifestyle and a greatopportunitytoenjoyitwillbe offered this Saturday evening in Springville. On July 29 from 5 p.m. td 10 p.m., the Fourth Annual Old-Fashioned Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social will be held on the lawn of the Community Presbyterian Church at 245 South 200 East in Springville. The entire community is invited. As in previous years, this social event will feature lots of fresh ice cream which can be enjoyed plain or with any combination of fresh raspberries (and other fruit) and or chocolate sauce. A prize, for the Best Ice Cream Eating Family will again be awarded. Both live and recorded music will also be provided, pro-vided, but the best reason for attending at-tending this event is simply the chance to sit down at tables outside on the green lawn, enjoying the ice cream and happy atmosphere of this special, old-fashioned event. Proceeds from this annual event in the past have gone towards renovating reno-vating the church itself (a 100 year old building which is on the official Register of Historical Buildings in Utah). This year, the proceeds are designated to contribute to a special spe-cial fund to build a small education building for the church's children. Satellite telecast to honor LDS president's 90th birthday President Ezra Taft Benson, world leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, will be honored hon-ored July 30 during a special program pro-gram commemorating his 90th Birthday Anniversary. The program, originating in the Tabernacle on Salt Lake City's Temple Square, will be televised live via satellite to gatherings at more than 2,000 church centers in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. The program will begin at 6 p.m. MDT. It will be rebroadcast over the church satellite network and over KBYU, Channel 11, Provo at 8 p.m. Featured will be messages from President Benson's associates in the First Presidency of the Church and from his family. Music for the occasion occa-sion will be furnished by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. President Benson was born August Au-gust 1899, in the southeast Idaho town of Whitney. He was educated at Brigham Young University and Iowa State College and pursued a career in agricultural adminstra-tion adminstra-tion that eventually led to service as U.S. Secretary of Agriculture during the eight-year administration administra-tion of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Eisen-hower. His agricultural career was interrupted inter-rupted in 1943 when he was called to be a member of the Church's Quorum of Twelve Apostles, and in 1985 he was ordained as the 13th President of the Church. Expected to be on hand for the birthday commemoration is his wife of nearly 63 years, Flora Amussen Benson, together with their six children and many of their numerous numer-ous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
