Show Page Four - The 'Springville Herald - July 29, 1987 ? ;;"' if Louise and Gordon Peirce Couple married 50 years The children of Gordon and Louise Bird Peirce will honor their parents on the occassion of their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, July 31, 1987 at a family dinner. They were married July 31, 1937 in Springville. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints on September 19, 1958. Gordon and Louise were both born in Springville and lived all their lives here. They are the parents of three children: Richard B. Peirce of Orem; Don Peirce of Mapleton; and Linda Smuin, of Ogden. They have 11 grandchildren. r 1 U i JA I J : I f - : r " W V,W SO i vs I, y With the torents of rain and the power going out last Tuesday at presstime, the staff at the Springville Herald were hard pressed to get the papers on the street at the due time. So we were pleased when Mrs. Luella Wilson brought in this photo of a plate full of ice balls she collected off of her lawn after Tuesday's freak hailstorm. A lot of damage was done by these stones from the sky in a very few minutes. Budge of Orem. The couple will be married on Saturday, August 1, 1987 in the Salt Lake Temple. A reception will honor them that evening from 8 until 10 p.m. at the Springville Museum of Art, 126 East 400 South in Springville. The event is open to all friends and relatives. The bride-to-be is a graduate of Springville High School. She is currently employed as the Director of Von Curtis Academy of Hair Design in Salt Lake City. The bridegroom is a graduate of Orem High School and Utah Technical College. He served an LDS mission is Spokane, Washington. He plans to attend Brigham Young University. Showers were given by Karen Thorn, Emily Wiscombe, Mary and Natalie Neff and the staff and students of Von Curtis Academy in Salt Lake and Provo. The newlyweds will make their home in Orem. Lynda Alvey to marry Friday Announcement is made by Tom and April Alvey of Salem and formerly of Springville, of the engagement of their daughter, Lynda, to Mr. Christian H. Talley, son of Mrs. Suzanne Talley of Anaheim, Califonia and the late James F. Talley. The couple plans to be married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on July 31, 1987. A reception will be held from 8 to 10 p.m. that evening at 470 East Salem Canal Road (Salem Stake Center). The bride-to-be graduated from Spanish Fork High School and LDS Seminary in 1985. She also graduated from dental assisting school and will graduate from Utah Valley Community College with an Associate Degree in the fall. The prospective groom graduated from Spanish Fork High School in May of 1984 and served a Spanish speaking mission for the LDS Church in Fort Lauderdale, Lauder-dale, Florida. He is studying in the field of aviation. The couple will make their home in San Diego, California. Christina Francis, daughter of Air Force Technical Sargeant Marvin and Sally Francis, was named salutatorian of the Hahn American High School graduating class at Hahn Air Force Base, West Germany. Christina is the granddaughter of Mary Farrens of Sacramento, Calif., Andrew Gotzenberg of Berkley, Calif., and Reed and Leslie Francis of Mapleton, Utah. She will be attending California State University and major in accounting. Christina received a $1,250 scholarship from the community scholarship fund at Hahn. " X , & fr. if 1 I, I It' 7 kr if ; f . ; J j0- 'wr; Lynda Concert features Sometimes I Dance Mountains, an early evening concert of contemporary contem-porary and children's creative dance will be presented on the Sundance Sun-dance Summer Theatre stage Friday, Fri-day, July 31 and Saturday, August 1, Fifty children and twenty adult dancers will perform. Artistic directors direc-tors of the concert are Christine Ollerton of Springville and Kathie Debenham. Jayne Luke will act as producer. This concert is being dedicated to the memory of Theron H. Luke who died recently. The featured dance of the evening will be "Women-the Pioneer," which was originally choreographed by the late Virginia Tanner. This dance was her tribute to all women, but notably those of Utah's pioneer heritage. According to Ms Luke, "This piece will be so beautiful when performed in the mountains of Sundance. Sun-dance. I wanted people to experience ex-perience it in a natural setting similar to the one encountered by the pioneers." Christine Ollerton and Kathie Debenham are director and assistant assis-tant director of the BYU Children and Teen's Creative Dance Program. Pro-gram. Ms Ollerton is a faculty member at BYU and a former member of Repertory Dance Theatre. Ms Debenham teaches at BYU and the Waterford School. She is co-founder and co-artistic director of Contemporary DANCEWORKS. The concert will be held at 5 p.m. both evenings. Performances of the Sundance Summer Theatre will be held as regularly scheduled. The five week course will begin on August 4th from 7 to 9 p.m. The class will be held in the hospital classroom. The classes are taught by a certified instructor, registered nurse. They will held prepare the new mother physically, emotionally and intellectually by learning what the new mother and partner can do during the labor and delivery of the baby. The State Board of Regents and the U.S. Department of Education announced the selection of Jaclyn Phillips, daughter of Ronald and Erma Jean Phillips of Springville, as the Congressional Teacher Scholar for the 1987-88 academic year. The scholarship will, in most cases, consist of a cash award of $5,000 per year. The Iward pays for tuition and fees, room and board, books and transportation at an institution of the student's choice. The scholarship is renewable for three years, for a total of four years. Jaclyn has chosen to attend at-tend the Brigham Young University. Jaclyn graduated from Springville High School with high honors. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club and was a participant in the Interact Travel Seminar to Mexico during her junior year.
