The answer to that question ques-tion depends on the age of the child. For the first three years or so, the baby's sucking actually ac-tually helps strengthen the tongue and lip muscles. Teeth don't automatically come in to the right places. ..and the tongue and lips play an important im-portant role in guiding the primary teeth into the right alignment. Then the primary teeth help the permanent ones come in correctly. Most children have already given up their pacifiers by the time their permanent teeth start erupting, around age five. If they haven't, thats when the habit could lead to "buck teeth" or some other bite problem that would require re-quire orthodontic correction. So pacifiers are fine for the first two or three years of life. After that, parents should help their children to give up the pacifiers. Girl Scouts from central Utah gathered together at Saratoga Resort for three days of camping, fun, singing, crafts, games, water slides, swimming and amusement rides. On June 18, over 1100 Girl Scouts arrived to set up camp and explore the many crafts . and games available to them. Alma Heaton Games, and the "creative critters" the Girl Scouts made from various craft materials proved the most popular with the young and the old alike. The Campfire on Thursday evening featured songs from our past 75 years with skits and run-ons, performed by Cadette Girl Scouts. Friday, after preparing breakfast over campfires, and cleaning up camp sites, the girls were ready for the water slides, swimming pools and amusement rides. Later, they also participated in crafts and New Games. Square dancing was another favorite, as was a Magic Show performed by Ronald McDonald. Smokey the Bear, McGrath Dog, and Billie Bob were special guests who joined the celebration. Special awards were given for best Troop banner, cleanest campsite, camp-site, best costume from the past, and uniform of the future. Closing ceremony on Saturday gave time to feel proud of the Girl Scout heritage and American heritage. The girls heard present and previous Girl Scouts share their feelings about Girl Scouting. By the end of the ceremony most eyes were very moist. A time capsule cap-sule was filled with contributions from troops. It will be opened in 25 years on our 100th anniversary. V Marching in harmony Think what a band would be like if everyone played the same notes, and everyone played the same kind of instrument. It would not be successful band. Harmony is the result of each of us playing our different parts. But it's important to remember that the element of cooperation is needed to achieve harmony. We should be like the band; each of us playing our parts, but playing under the direction of a leader, who ensures we play at the proper tempo and march at the right pace. God has given each of us individuality, and each of us is blessed with an unique blend of gifts and talents. It was His intention, though, when He made us individuals, that we work together for a common goal and for the common good.
