Her grandparents are Vernon and I la Cook, former Springville residents, and Bill and Leah Inman, all of Salt Lake City. Little Camilla Rose Cook, daughter of Val and Collette Cook of Provo, will celebrate her first birthday on Thursday, February 27, 1986. She is the granddaughter of Irvin and Nello Bassett of Springville and Gene and Pat Cook of Mapleton. Club hears Mary Jane Palfreyman was the guest speaker at the Cultural Arts Club which was held on February 19 at the home of hostess Helen Bird. Mrs. Palfreyman gave a very interesting in-teresting program on her experiences ex-periences while living in Libya during 1969-70. Her hysband Grant was stationed at the Wheelus Air Base, a U.S. airbase used for training NATO flyers. He is the son of Dan Beck and Whitney Fackrell Beck. He has a sister Aubri Beck. Grandparents are Mary Jo and John Robertson of Springville, Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Fackrell and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Beck of Orem. Tanya Elise Black, daughter of Keith and Vicky Black of Payson, turned one year old on February 24, 1986. Her proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. LaMar Phillips of Springville and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Black of Payson. Tanya has one sister, Kala Jo. about Libya after the takeover. Free enterprise was abolished, the Americans were forced to leave, and the airbase was taken over by the Libyans. She showed films of Tripoli, which was five miles from the airbase. Home Culture The Home Culture Club met at the home of Mrs. Margaret Conover Friday. Mrs. Eldon Peery was co-hostess. co-hostess. President Mrs. Carl Curtis welcomed those present. Mrs. Bert Brown read the Club Collect and Mrs. Howard Sanford Lead the Pledge to the flag. Luncheon was served and Mrs. Jane Strong introduced the speaker, Mr. Lynn Roundy of Springville, who spoke on the problems of Child Abuse. The guest present were Mrs. Dr. Alan C. A reception will honor the couple that evening from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the same location. The event is open to all friend and relatives. Bridal attendants will be Sandy Bell, Tammy Moffitt, Jan Thomas, Michelle Gren, Nan Blanchard with flower girl, Holly Bell. Best men will be Steve Gurney, Steven Gren, Brice and Chad Thomas with ring bearer, Shad Gren. The bride elect graducated from Spanish Fork High and LDS Seminary. She attended Utah Technical College Col-lege and is employed in Provo. Her fiance graduated from Springville High and LDS Seminary and is employed in Provo. The couple will live in Provo. . Devin Dale Blakey, son of Steve and Beth Blakey, celebrated his first birthday on February 13, 1986. His brothers are Shaun, Michael and Bret Blakey. Grandparents are Eva Dean Liston, Escalante, Mr. and Mrs. M.D. Blakey, Dallas, Texas and great-grandmother, LaNora Griffin, Escalante. Nathan Ray Bartholomew, son of Ray and Ann Bartholomew of Springville, celebrated his first birthday on February 13, 1986. His grandparents are Jack and Klea Curtis and Mark and Ruth Bartholomew, all of Springville. Great-grandparents are Abner and Hazel Baird of Payson and Charlotte Johnson of Springville. He has one brother, Ryan. Mother's Study Club meets The Mothers' Study Club met for their February meeting at Sanfords' , Crystal Manor on Tuesday, February 18th. The meeting was under the direction of President Louise Tasker. After enjoying a delicious luncheon, lun-cheon, the group of members and guests were entertained by the Florence Jepperson Madsen Memorial Chorus, who sang a group of songs especially chosen for February. The music was delightful. The group of singers and club members were treated to special Valentine candy prepared by the President and Muriel Rigby. Day wish to announce an open house honoring their mother on her 80th birthday. It will be held Saturday, March 1, 1986, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the 1st, 12th Ward Chapel, 840 South 400 East in Springville. All friends and relatives are invited. The family request no gifts. Marjorie was born March 1, 1906 in Salt Lake City, a daughter of William Henry and Elizabeth Harris Smith. She attended the public schools and graduated from West High School. After graduating she worked as an office clerk, telephone operator and supervisor at the Hyland Telephone Office for five years. She met Luke Day in Park City and they were married June 13, 1931, making their home in Park City for eight years. They moved to Springville and farmed for three years. Then Luke found employment with Geneva Steel where he worked until his death in 1965. Marjorie has been a Primary teacher, Relief Society Secretary, visiting teacher, and call supervisor over several districts. She worked as a counting judge at the polls for a number of years. She is a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and attends meetings of her 12th Ward Special Interest group. She is a member of the Springville Senior Citizens and enjoys many of their activities. She enjoys making quilts and has made many for her family and friends. One of her favorite activities ac-tivities is taking a long walk each day, weather permitting. She has two sons, Clark Harris Day, Springville and Ralph Luke Day of Spanish Fork. She also has seven grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. A sister, Viola Ebert resides in Salt Lake City. Music teachers to meet Thurs. The Utah Music Teachers Association will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, February 28th at 9:30 a.m. at the home of Debbie Augustus. The brunch will be held at the Crystal Manor in Springville at 10:30 a.m. The contestants con-testants will be introduced at this time and a hostess will be assigned to each girl to assist her throughout the pageant activities. Guest speaker for the event will be the current Miss Utah, Gina Larsen. Camp Cottonwood hears pioneer stories Camp Cottonwood DUP held their February meeting at the home of Olive Dunn. Alice Sudweeks was in charge of the meeting. Capt. Vera Anderson appointed a nominating committee for elections in May. They are: Arlene Lewis, Afton Merrill, Lula Garrett and Grace Bates. Margaret Campbell read the history of her husbands aunt, Sarah Ann Shirts,. She was born September Sep-tember 27, 1861, in Providence, Utah to Charles Henry Gates and Elizabeth Butler Gates. Charles Henry was killed by a Grizzly bear and mangled as he was, he lived for ten days. His gun, with the teeth marks from the bear still on the stock, is in the possession of the family. Sometime after Henry's death, Elizabeth married David Campbell and they and her parents were called to go south and help settle Beaver Dam in Washington County. They suffered many hardships hard-ships from floods and hunger. They were finally released and told to move back home. She loved to dance and while at a dance, she met Maroni (Rone) Shirts and on Dec. 23, 1877, they were married and settled in Escalante. For the next period of their lives they spent their summers at a hog ranch on North Creek with her mother, Elizabeth Gates Campbell and children. At the time Sarah and Maroni celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary they had 9 children, 53 grandchildren and 21 greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. Rone died in 1932 at age 74 and Sarah 11 years later at age 83. Arlene Lewis gave a very interesting in-teresting lesson on the "Rivers of Utah". Hostesses Olive Dunn and Grace Bates served a delicious luncheon to 14 members. Camp Cottonwood was in charge of the program at the February County meeting.
