' fx i. -; " 8 'I Bradley Smith-Janine Hill Couple to marry Friday in temple Mr. and Mrs. Earldean Anderson are announcing the marriage of their daughter, Lynette, to David B Bartholomew, Bar-tholomew, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Mark Bartholomew, Springville. The couple have chosen Friday, May 17, to pledge marriage vows in the Provo LDS Temple. A reception will be held in their honor that same evening in the Mt. Pleasant First-Fourth LDS Ward Cultural Hall. . . L Miss Anderson is a graduate of North Sanpete High School and LDS Seminary. She graduated from Snow College and has attended Brigham Young University. She recently fulfilled an LDS Mission to the Louisiana-Baton Louisiana-Baton Rouge Mission. . Mr Bartholomew is a graduate of Springville High School and LDS Seminary. He is currently attending BYU. He has fulfilled an LDS Mission to the Australia-Melbourne Australia-Melbourne Mission. The newlyweds will make their home in Provo. Crandall-Hatfield wedding told Kerrie L. Hatfield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle H. Hatfield of Mapleton, will marry Bret L. Crandall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Crandall of Springville on Thursday, May 16, 1983 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. An open house will honor the couple that evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in Provo at the Excelsior Hotel Talmage Room. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. The bride-elect graduated from Springville High School and LDS Seminary. She is a senior at BYU majoring in Home Economics Education with a Clothing and Textile minor. Bret is a graduate of Springville High School and LDS Seminary. He served an LDS mission in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated in April from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors' Degree in Zoology and plans to continue his education in dental school this fall. Bradley Smith to marry Janine Hill Janine Hill, daughter of Marc Hill of Port Orchard, Washington and Thelma Hill of Orem will marry - Bradley Alan Smith, son of Mr, and Mrs. Jerry Smith of -Springville, on Saturday, May 18, 1985 in the the Church ..of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Salt Lake Temple. A reception will honor the couple that evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Women's Cultural Center in Provo. All friends and relatives are invited. The bride's maid of honor will be Andrea Eillis with Melissa Hill, Karen Smith and Melanie Smith bridesmaids. Gregg Smith will serve as the groom s best mfhe bride-elect graduated with honors from South Kelsap High School in Orchard, Washington and received an academic scholarship to B.Y.U. She is currently attending U.T.C. and is employed in Orem. The groom graduated from Springville High School and served an LDS mission in Okayama, Japan. Jones, also of Mapleton. The couple will be married on Thursday, May 23, 1985 in the Salt Lake Temple. A wedding breakfast will be held for them at Apple Butter Farms in Provo and a reception will further fur-ther honor them 4a same evening in Mapleton at the 2nd. and 6th. She is currently working in Springville and will attend Mary Kawakami College of Beauty in October. The prospective groom graduated from Provo Hign School and LDS Seminary. He served an LDS mission to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He works for Jones Paint and Glass in Provo. Showers were given for the bride by Melanie Jones and Shelley James, sisters of the bride, and Judy Jones and Amy Wright. Shelley James will serve as maid of honor and Amy Wright as bridesmaid. David and Brian Jones, brothers of the groom, will be the bestmen. Special guests will be grandparents, Frank and Edna Brill of Orem and Harold and Fay Jones of Provo. Camp Aaron Johnson Mapleton doctor elected Douglas B. Kirkpatrick, M.D., neurosurgeon at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, has been elected president of the Utah State Neurosurgical Society. Objectives of the state society are to ensure the quality of nuerosurgical practice in Utah and keep abreast of current trends and developments through the national society. Dr. Kirkpatrick has been a partner part-ner in the Utah Neurological Clinic and a member of UVRMC's medical staff since 1977. He graduated from the Duke University School of Medicine and completed his surgical internship at the University of California at Los Angeles. After a year of surgical residency at UCLA, he undertook a year's research in neurophysiology at the Brain Research Institute. He then completed com-pleted his neurosurgery residency and moved to Utah to practice. Dr. Kirkpatrick is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He belongs to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the Rocky Mountain Neurosurgical Society. Nebo helps handicapped By Michael Olson Pupil Personnel Specialist Stan Cammack reported on Nebo School District's efforts to work with handicapped youngsters during last week's Nebo Board Meeting. Before presenting a film detailing general problems in transporting handicapped youngsters, he told the Board the District now transports some 65 severely handicapped young people to Provo. Cammack noted the District now fully serves fifteen to twenty students in wheelchairs while there were none being served five years ago. And although the District has no blind students this year, next year six profoundly deaf students will be served. "A mountain and a river are good neighbors." George Herbert Camp Aaron Johnson D.U.P. held their meeting May 9 at the home of Fay Ward. First Vice Captain Thora Witney conducted. A report was given on the Tri-County Convention held in April where new County Officers were installed. The DUP Museum will be open during the summer every Wednesday from 2 to 5. Thoughts on Mother's Day were given by Wilda Oakley and Thora Witney after which a history of Nancy Elizabeth Chase Miner was given by her granddaughter, Thora Witnev. Nancy was born November 1, 1845, in North Rochester, Lorane County, Ohio, the daughter of Soloman Drake and Lydia Ann Thorn Chase. They were among the first to accept the gospel, and never doubted that Joseph Smith was a true Prophet of God. They gave up their many associations and cast their lot with the saints in Nauvoo and other Western settlements. In 1853, they started across the plains in a private company of relatives. They arrived , in Springville in 1858. Nancy married Moroni Miner Feb. 3, 1861, when she was 15 years old. They were the parents of 15 children: 12 sons and 3 daughters. Eight sons and two daughters grew to maturity. She was deeply religious and taught it to her family through her daily life in the home. Home Culture Club Friday The Home Culture Club will meet Friday, May 17, at the home of Mrs. Howard Sumsion. Joyce Maxfield will present a program on 'Seasoning with Herbs.' She died June 3, 1928. The lesson on Native Pioneers was given by Class Leader Helen Har-mer. Har-mer. Zemira Terry Draper Jr. was born in Draper, Utah March 16, 1859. His father was a Methodist Minister in Canada. He was converted to the Gospel and joined the Saints in Ohio in 1852. He was called by Brigham Young to settle in Zion Canyon and died January 4, 1876, leaving young Zemira the head of the family at age 18. In 1877, they joined the United Order. After 8 years he went to . Draper, Utah to live and met Olga Josephine Poulson. They were married October 26, 1887. He died in 1907, in Pleasant Grove. Edward Wallace Guymon was born in Springville December 15, 1859. He was the son of Noah Thomas and Margaret Johnson Guymon. When he was 12 years old his father told him he was old enough to support sup-port himself so he must leave the family home. He married Elizabeth Preater January 27, 1883, and they moved to Huntington. For the next 30 years they moved around, working at various jobs and finally settling in Murray where he spent his remaining years. He died January 8, 1937. Luncheon was served to nine members. Belle Thomas was assisting hostess. Jr- Brandon Johnson, son of Warren and Teresa Johnson of Provo and for-merely for-merely of Springville, recently won first place in the Chubby Cheeks category of a baby contest.
