Marva Taylor, Anna Ostlund, Ida Lewis, Maryn Johnson, LaVon Hansen, Louise Springer, Evelyn Wolsey, Dorothy Clark, Renee Curtis, Erma Peay. The next meeting will be on Wednesday night Feb. 1, 1984. It is a partner party to be held at the Social Center in Spanish Fork at 6:30 p.m. The Pari Passu Club met at the home of Erma Peay on Thursday, Jan. 5, 1984. LaVon Hansen was assisting hostess. President Lorene Savage welcomed everyone there and asked Betty Sumsion to read the "Collect." Minutes of the previous meetings were read and approved. A thank you note was received from the committee of the "Festival of Trees" for the contribution of the quilt the club made. Also received was a 'thank you' for the wedding present for John and Michele DeHaas. The topic for the evening was on "Health" and a very interesting and informative talk was given by Connie Parmley. She is a young single mother of 3 and teaches aerobics classes. She says in a general survey, that 70 percent of all people consider good health to be the most important blessing we have. She discussed how diet and exercise go together to make bodies healthier. She recommended the book, "How to Lower Your Fat Thermostat," in order to learn to balance the things we do. Weight in 1984. Nolan and Aileen V. Weight in 1934. Nolan, Aileen Weight to celebrate 50th Nolan G. and Aileen Vane Weight will celebrate their 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary January 17, 1984. They were married January 17, 1934 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their children are hosting an open house in their honor Friday, January 20, at the Mapleton First Ward Church. All relatives and friends are invited to attend from 7 to 9 p.m. They request no gifts please. Nolan and Aileen are the parents of seven children; Mrs. Dean L. Tew (Myrna Lee) and Barry A. Weight both of Mapleton. Howard V. Weight of San Jose, California1. Melvyn R Weight, Mrs. Martin Powell (Camille) and Kent N. Weight of Springville, and Mrs. Robert Riddle (LaNell) of Salt Lake City. They have 35 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. The couple were both born and raised in Springville. They have been active in the LDS" Church all their lives. Nolan retired with 35 years at Geneva in 1974. They enjoy en-joy their family and traveling with friends. ill - i Association Kanig to hold recital sates serena Kanig, daughter of Rep. Lavinia Ludlow Kanig, will present her Utah debut recital on Monday Jan. 16, 1984 in Steinway Hall, Daynes Music Company, 156 South Main Street, Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Robert Muckenfuss of Cincinnati, Cin-cinnati, Ohio will accompany her at the piano. Both Ms. Kanig and Mr. Muckenfuss are graduates of the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati, There Ms. Kanig studied voice with Italo Tajo, Nancy Carr, and Hubert Kockritz and performed in opera workshop scenes as Pamina in "The Magic Flute," Lauretta in "Gianni Schicci," as well as in two recitals. Later after performing roles in Goldovsky Institute and Manhattan Opera Theatre, Ms. Kanig presented recitals at the Harvard Strauss Society, Boston, Massachutes, in Washington, DC, Cleveland, Ohio and most recently, as a guest artist in the Women in Music series at Colby College, Waterville, Maine. She will open the 1984 Utah State Legislature singing the "Star Spangled Banner." Ms. Kanig placed in the preliminary auditions for the Metropolitan Opera National Council and competes on January 13, 1984 in the district auditions. Presently she studies in New York City with John Bullock. Mr. Muckenfuss studied piano at the Conservatory with John Quincy Bass and the imminent performer David Bar-Man. After graduation he was the rehearsal accompanist for the Cincinnati Opera and in 1982 accompanied the well-known English baritone, John Shirley-Quirk, Shirley-Quirk, on his Hawaiian tour. He has acted as an accompanist for the International Bassist Competition in the Isle of Mann, British Isles, and he has appeared as piano soloist with Hamilton Symphony Sym-phony Orchestra. contest The Utah Mothers Association of the National American Mothers Inc. is sponsoring a state vocal music competition as part of their annual Cultural Arts Competition. Young women between the ages of 18 and 21 who have studied voice at least one year with a reputable music school or with an accredited vocal music teacher are eligible to ccnpete. A letter of recommendation trom a sponsor (someone in the music field who can recommend the contestant); and a five dollar entry fee. Entry must be postmarked no later than Jan. 31, 1984. Larsen, daughter of Karl Larsen and WenJv (Johnson) Larsen both Springville, celebrated her first birthday on Dec. 1, 1983. Her Grandparents are Kay and Marilyn Johnson of Springville and Leon and Hilda Larsen of Springville. Her Great Grandparents Grand-parents are Ben and Fern Zobell of Spanish Fork and Norris and Madge Johnson of Spanish Fork. Her Great- Great- Grandparents are George and Thelma Knuteson of Spanish Fork. Warren E. Bartel, of Provo, has been named the new general manager of Geneva-Pittsburg works in Orem. He replaces Robert W. Raybuck of Provo who is going to an Alabama plant. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Mr. Bartel was graduated from Ohio University at Athens with a B.S.. degree in industrial technology. He later earned an MBA from Case Western Reserve University and studied at John Marshall Law School, both in Cleveland. He joined U.S. Stell in 1967 as a management trainee at Lorain Works in northern Ohio where he held a number of management positions prior to his transfer in 1980 to Fairless Works in Pennsylvania as superintendent of the open hearth in the steel producing division. Young Mother's to hold meeting The Central Utah Young Mothers Study Group will meet on Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Orem Library multipurpose room. The guest speaker is Debbie Hadfield who will speak on "A Mother's Hodgepodge of Ideas for Teaching Children." Mrs. Hadfield has her own talk show on K96 and also well known for teaching memory classes. She loves to write, hike, and in involved in Cub Scouts.
