Show Page Eight - The Springviile Herald - July 14, 1983 Family reunions llalverson The third annual Halverson reunion was held at Saratoga on June 18 and 19. Forty-five descendants of the late Andrew and Mary Halverson came, from Ohio, Wyoming, Colorado, Nevada and Utah. Direct descendants descen-dants were Harvey Halverson of West Jordan and Merrill Halverson Craig L. Jensen, son of Garold and Mary Lou Jensen, has been called to serve in the Illinois, Peoria LDS Mission. His farewell will be held Sunday, July 17 at the Springviile Stake House, 245 S. 600 E., at 2:50 p.m. An open house will be held at his home, 616 Kolob Circle, on Saturday, July 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. Teresa Canto, daughter of John A. and Maurine Canto of Springviile, has been called to serve in the Philippines, Bagulo LDS Mission. A special thanks to Harvey, Lee, Carol, Gene and Joyce Halverson, who were in charge of the reunion this year. A wonderful time of visiting was enjoyed by all who attended. Our reunion next year will be held in Pinedale, Wyo. on July 4. Weight Members of the J. Keith Weight family met recently at the home of Kay Weight in Arcadia, Utah for the first annual Weight Reunion. The family enjoyed playing soft-ball, soft-ball, croquet and sharing a meal of dutch oven chicken and assorted salads, prepared by various family members. A special program was presented by children and grandchildren in a tribute to their parents and grandparents, grand-parents, Keith and Louise Weight, after which homemade ice cream and chocolate cake was enjoyed by all. They won their first game on July 11 against Payson, 4-1 and will be playing July 12 against another team from Logan. The winner of the Payson tournament will advance to the state tournament to be held in Springviile the week of July 18-23. Members of the Red Team are: Scott Austin, Todd Parker, Neil Johnson, Cary Rominger, Kurt Davis, Matt Ollerton, Frank Hatch, Mark Prothero, Roger Taylor, Lance Rich, Bob Messick, Chad Tanner, Tan-ner, Brett Neff , Jay Helton and Rick Murray. The coaches are Larry Steele and Claude Rominger with Denny Murray as business manager. Springviile will host the state Colt League All Star Tournament the week of July 18 thru 23. There will be games every night at 5 : 30 and 8 p.m. The games will be played at the Springviile Spr-ingviile High School baseball diamond. dia-mond. There will be a fine exhibition of baseball and some of the teams present will be the winners of the Payson, Bear River, Tooele, Bountiful and Vernal Sectional Sec-tional Tournaments and the Springviile Spr-ingviile Blue All Star team. There has been much time and effort, ef-fort, under the direction of Alan Curtis, Cur-tis, to upgrade the diamonds and dug-outs at the high school for this tournament. Many hours of volunteer labor and materials have been expended to make this area a place to be proud of. Coaches and others spend many hours trying to make this a successful event. Members of the Blue Team are: Kelly Curtis, Scott Mitchell, Sean Steele, Mark Comer, Scott Carter, Kyle Kimber, John Paystrup, Shaun Rawlings, Chris Woodfield, Brannon Neff, Todd Smith, Jeff Thorpe, Rod Larsen, Darrin Pierce, and Darrin Ferguson. The coaches are: Lee Evans and Gordon Smith with Leon Woodfield as business manager. There is no sauce as delectable as the open air, nor spice that can season like the sun. Life will never be dull for anyone who can take lunch outside and call it a picnic. Two baseball games are already slated for the tourney -Muller Park vs. Granite at 5 p m. and Springviile vs. South West Valley at 7 p.m. A Pony tourney for 13 and 14-year-olds is scheduled to begin on July 26. Pairings will be announced at a later date. Mustang (ages 9 and 10) and Bronco Bron-co (ages 11 and 12) tournaments will be held in Springviile during the week of July 18-22. Two teams from Springviile will participate in each tourney. Games will be played nightly night-ly at 4 and 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Park. Mapleton defeated South Jordan 13-5 in a district Mustang first round game at Kearns on Monday night. Mapleton was scheduled to play at Kearns Tuesday night. Results will be announced. The Mapleton Bronco league will begin tourney play at Kearns on Monday, July 18. The first game at 4 p.m. will pitch Mapleton against Muller Park. "Money makes a man laugh."
