Presentation was made at the FFA Parent Member Banquet. Don Condie, freshman student absent when photo was taken, received a silver award. Door prizes add excitement to local senior citizens By Boyd Nelson Last week the door prize at the senior citizen center was a beautiful hand woven throw rug. It was donated by Eva Loveridge and Ina Pitcher. The lucky winner was Dennis Farnsworth. By coincidence the prize served as a birthday gift - it being Dennis' 84th birthday. Naturally, the entire group wished Dennis happy birthday in song. At the Spring Flowers Banquet, April 29, Blain and Audry Miner presented the door prize a beautiful potted purple chrysanthemum. A few days before this Myrl Whiting gave a door prize of a very decorative and useful tray. Earlier in the month Blain Miner gave a door prize of very unique hot pads in the shape of panties with an especially cute verse attached explaining ex-plaining how to use them. During the month of March, June Gale contributed a crocheted clothes hanger as a door prize which certainly cer-tainly entailed hours of handiwork and designing. Twice during March, Louise Jensen gave door prizes of very attractive towel sets which also delighted the lucky winners. Earlier this year Odessa Nelson started the practice of drawing for door prizes. She made a set of numbers which were placed in an emptied coffee can. First Odessa gave a lovely ceramic vase, and later she contributed a beautiful Quilters to exhibit in Art City Days Utah quilters take note! Cicero potted African Violet in a special basket. It has been very evident that all door prize gifts to this date have received the woman's touch. Each gift has been attractively wrapped with colored paper and ribbons and bows, and sometimes accompanied by appropriate verses or words. It has been mentioned, however, that this should not discourage men who in past years have sometimes contributed clumsily packaged prizes. The renewed practice of drawing for door prizes is reminiscent of a few years ago when Boyd Nelson developed this practice. Old timers at the center have commented on the joy of bringing back this activity. Some remember the many gifts brought to the center by Ruby Peterson, Charles Porter, Bernice Cranmer, Guy Brown, A.I. Tippetts, Goldie Smith, Odessa Nelson and others. There seems to be a very special desire among senior citizens to share with others, and of course there are always white elephants which cannot be used or stored by the present owner, but which become a valuable asset to the new recipient. Director Thomas has asked board members and officers of the organization to oversee the drawing for door prizes to assure its continued con-tinued success. is being repeated by popular demand. The show will run from May 28 to July 3. The museum is open free to the public every day from 10-5 except Mondays, when it is closed.
