Joubert Kelly Wilson ChopRicn Kelly Wilson Chapman, 21, of 851 S. 400 East Springville died Sunday, July 25 of injuries sustained in a motorcycle automobile accident in Sandy, Utah. He was born March 3, 1961 at Provo to Francis H. and Thelma Wilson Chapman. He attended schools in Springville and was a graduate of the Springville High School. Mr. Chapman was a member of the LDS Church. He was employed at the North American Manufacturing Corp. in Spanish Fork. He was an accomplished artist, vocalist and musician. Surviving, parents of Springville, one brother and three sisters: Leland Boyd Chapman of Drumheller, Alberta, Canada; Mrs. Denna Gray of Salt Lake City, Mrs. David (Cathy) Allman of Provo; Miss Annette Chapman of Provo; and grandmother, Mrs. Violet Fowler of Goshen, Utah. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 29 at 2 'p.m. in the Springville First-12th LDS Ward chapel, 800 S. 400 East. Bishop James Rawle will officiate. Matson Afton Moore Matson Afton Monroe Matson, born June 23, 18 at Mapleton, Utah, the last child of George B. Matson and Jane Elizabeth Waters Matson, of a family of six,; four boys and two girls, all proceeding him in death. Afton Monroe died at the age of 86 on July 25, 1982, in Baker, Oregon. His eternal wife Flora Stone Matson preceeded him in death on May 4, 1974 at Maines, Oregon, after a short illness. Flora and Afton are survived by five daughters; Ella Mae Lindsay, Lois Budzynski, Nora Marcile Gahley, Afton Elaine Reschke and Gayle LaVon Cole. There are 22 grandchildren and 24 great- grandchildren. Afton was born in a little adobe home of his father and mother one mile north of the center of the town of Mapleton, Utah, at that time a small town of about 30 families. Afton's father was the first LDS missionary to leave Mapleton for a mission to Pennsylvania and West Virginia, 1893-1895, 1893-1895, traveling without purse or script. The Star Six Orchestra of Mapleton, featured Afton on the violin until the absolution of the six orchestra members when Afton moved his family to Aberdeen, Idaho, to become a potato farmer. During the depression of the 1930s, Afton sold sacks of potatoes to the townspeople town-speople for 10 cents per bag. When a hungry family was unable to produce 10 cents, they were given the bag free. In 1934, Flora and Afton sold their farm in Aberdeen purchased an abandoned, old opera house, turning it into a movie theater and ice cream and hamburger shop, the only entertainment en-tertainment center in the town. Here Flora and Afton raised four of their five girls as usherettes, waitresses and candy clerks of the Star Theater and the Matson's Sweet Shop until 1941 when the business was sold. The succeeding years were spent managing theaters, working in Real Estate and finally retiring from the Union Pacific Railroad in Salt Lake City in the year 1965. "Matt", as he was often called, from there took his wife to Orem, Utah, where they expected to live out the rest of their days. But in 1973 they sold their home in Orem and moved to Haines, Oregon, in a new little cottage on the edge of the property of their oldest daughter Ella. After Floras death in 1974, Afton moved into another little home in Baker, Oregon, where he lived the rest of his days. 1438 Lancelot Dr. i Provo, Utah OF JUNKl $4 4 Kayrnona aeon Hutchings Raymond Scott Hut-chings, Hut-chings, 42, of Ruth , Nev. former Springville resident, died Friday, July 23, in an accident near Ruth. He was born September 20, 1940, at San Fernando, Calif., the son of Howard W. and Bonnie Jean Hutchings. He married Kay Yvonne Jarvis March 17, 1963 at Las Vegas, Nev. He was raised in Springville, and attended schools here. He was in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific area, and around Japan. He was an avid hunter and sportsman. sport-sman. He and his wife moved to Nevada in 1970. He is survived by his wife of Ruth, Nev.; three sons and one daughter: Wesley, Yvonne, Clinton, and Austin Hutchings, all of Ruth. Parents of Springville, two brothers and two sisters: Robert A. Hutchings of West Jordan, Rodger Hutchings Hut-chings of Mapleton, Mrs. Gary (Judy) King of Seal Beach California, and Mrs. Roger (Bonnie Jo) Miner of American Fork. Salt Lake City, died Saturday, July 24, 1982 at her residence. She was born April 7, 1887 at lone, Calif., the daughter of Bird William and Josephine Matilda Phillips. She married William Thomas Eddy on Nov. 22, 1907 at lone. He died in 1966. She was reared in lone and attended schools there. She was also a fruit packer at the lone fruit packing company. She moved to Alaska with her husband, and lived there for four years, before moving to Utah where she lived in several towns where her husband worked construction. She had resided in Salt Lake City the past few years. She is survived by two daughters and two sons. She was born Oct. 16, 1939 at Springville, the daughter of Leo Velt and Fae Palfreyman Hancock. Han-cock. She was married to Richard H. Keifer on Nov. 21, 1959 at Springville. The marriage was later solomized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was a graduate of the Springville High School and sang in the Acapella Choir. She was also a graduate of the LDS Seminary System. She had served as counselor in the Relief Society and as a member of the ward choir. She had won awards at the Tooele County Fair for her paintings and quilts. If you went to school in the two-story schoolhouse or remember the first little church, then you are old enough to enjoy this reunion. Former residents living in this area, along with Mapleton "Old Timers" are asked to contact relatives or friends, who may not see local newspapers. Clinton Young is serving ser-ving as chairman of the event. He and his committee com-mittee will attend to seating and other physical arrangments of the park. Mayor Wendell Johnson and his wife Susan are in charge of the refreshments. Orpha Dee Johnson has been appointed ap-pointed program chairman, and Berniece Everett is in charge of publicity. All long time residents of Mapleton are asked to come and serve as hosts and hostesses to out-of-town guests, for the evening.
