Nebo to hold survival treks The Nebo School District will be sponsoring spon-soring two wilderness survival trips, June 2-6, and June 9-13 in the Strawberry Diamond Fork area. Unlike many outdoor programs, the teaching of outdoor survival skills (such as living off the land) is not a major goal of these programs. All the ac-tivites ac-tivites during these survival trips will be directed toward the teaching of social and group cooperation skills. All participants will enjoy making new friends, and having a fun exciting, and challenging outdoor experience, while developing self-confidence, self-confidence, learning to achieve goals, and coming to appreciate the good things of life. School credit will be offered completing all phases of the trek. u About 150 students from both Nebo and Alpine School districts will be participating in the trips (also some college students). Any student who was in eighth grade or higher during this school year can participate par-ticipate (both junior high and high school). The cost will be $25 per student. There will be two instructors in-structors per group of 15 students, (one male and one female). These instructors in-structors will be either personnel from one of the school districts, or people trained ' in outdoor programs from BYU. The treks will take place on successive weeks. Students will meet on Tuesday at Springville High School at 10:30 a.m., and be picked up by parents at Palmyra campground in Diamond Fork Canyon at 8 a.m. on Saturday. The Wilderness Survival Sur-vival Program is a fun and challenging learning experience. Its object is to teach the student through experience, while maintaining strict standards of safety and deportment. For further information contact the counselor at Springville Junior High or High School, or call Lee Condie at the Nebo School District Office (798-8651).
