Show Page Six - The Springville Herald - July QUk$tim Ares Gammell Ares Brown Gammell, 87, of Orem died Saturday, Satur-day, July 26, 1980 at Utah Valley Hospital of a heart attack. He was born Feb. 7, 1893 in Springville to Robert and Mary Ann Clements Gammell. He married Margaret Nelson, June 1, 1915 in Spanish Fork. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He attended school in Springville and graduated from Springville High School. After his marriage he lived in Springville and later moved to Spring Canyon to follow the Plumbing and Pipe fitting trade. He lived in Spokane, Wash., for several years and moved to Orem in 1945. He worked on the construction of several electrical plants as a plumber He was a pipefitter for Utah Power and Light. After his retirement he completed the plumbing on the Orem 62nd Ward Chapel. He was an active singer and member of the LDS Church. He served as a high priest and as the secretary of the High Priest group. His survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Frank (Naomi) Erickson, Murray; 11 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Packard, Pocatello, Idaho and Mrs. Wilford (Melva) Gottfredson, Springville. Funeral services were Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Orem 62nd Ward Chapel, 1090 N. 400 E. Burial was in the Springville City Cemetery. Florence W. Chernik Florence Woodhouse Chernik, 61, died Thursday, Thur-sday, July 24, 1980, at her home in Salt Lake City. She was born Nov. 21, 1918 in Lehi to Morgan Thomas and Nellie Prestwich Woodhouse. Surviviors include four sons and two daughters, Wade Clontz and Thomas A. Chernik, both of Salt Lake City; Terry Clontz, Washington; Capt. Jerry Chernik, Germany; Mrs. Roy (Neva) Ringwald, Riverside, Calif.; Mrs. (Nik) Elizabeth Ther, Brigham City; five grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters, Evern Woodhouse, Springville; Eva Taylor, Nellie Cabin and R.L. Elder Shirley Arlene Elder, 47, of 558 E. 1355 South, Springville, died Friday, July 25, 1980 at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City following an illness. She was born Nov. 7, 1932 at Levan, the daughter of LeRoy and Myrtle Beard Williams. She married Arthur Lewis "Butch" Elder on Feb. 16, 1951 at Provoand the marriage was solemnized later in the Manti LDS Temple. She was active in the Relief Society. She had been employed as a dry cleaning operator. Survivors include her husband of Springville; two sons and two daughters, Mrs. Alan (Karen Lee) Isaacson, Port Huennene, Calif.. Mrs. Michael (Kaylnn) Moore, Mesa, Ariz.; Michael L. Elder, Springville; Masel LeRoy Elder, Delta ; mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ligman, Provo; father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. William LeRoy Williams, California ; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Gary Williams and Sherlian Duane Ligman, both of Provo. Paulson, 88, of Orem, died Friday, July 25, 1980 at his home. He was born Feb. 9, 1892 in Maple Ridge, Minn., a son' of Lars Magnus and Alma Charlotta Alexanderson Pauslon. He married Elsie M. Triechel on Aug. 7, 1914 in Dalbo, Minn. He was a carpenter and a farmer. He built the first LDS Chapel in Springvale, Minn. When the chapel was dedicated by President David O. He was born Feb. 1, 1891 in Spanish Fork to Joseph R. and Agnes Measom Patterson. He married Nellie Elizabeth Stone, Nov. 19, 1925 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died in 1961. He then married Lila Hicken. In his early life he lived on a farm in Leland and later moved to Idaho. Following his marriage, he moved to Salem and in 1948 to Springville. He was employed by the Del Monte Canning Co. and U and I Sugar Co. He was a high priest in the LDS Church, and following his retirement he was a temple worker in the St. George LDS Temple. He was a veteran of World War I serving as a mechanic in the Air Corps. His survivors are one son and one daughter, Mrs. John D. (Beth) Jensen, Springville; Allen Patterson, Castle Dale; 21 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters, Spencer M. Patterson, Santa Anna, Calif.; Mrs. Leone Ashman, Las Vegas, and Mrs. Mary Folsom, Colainga, Calif. The cars were father-son built or built by the cubs themselves. them-selves. During the race, one cub scout was the driver and one the pusher. At midpoint they exchanged places. The course was a figure eight with two jumps, water balloon land mines and a slalom at one end. The group was divided into two divisions: eight and nine-year olds, and the ten year olds. The fastest times turned in in each division won first, second and third places. The dads unleashed their creative ability to the utmost. One entry surprised even its cub builders by nearly winnng except for their encounter with "land mines." The cub scouts particularly par-ticularly enjoyed the results of their push power, and those in charge appreciated the efforts and participation of all. Timothy L. Baker, whose wife, Shauna, lives in Spanish Fork, Utah, recently completed training as an armor reconnaissance specialist at the U.S. Army Armor School, Fort Knox, Ky. Baker's mother, Mrs. Sylvia Thomas, lives at 971 S. Artistic Drive, Springville. The training was conducted under the One Station Unit Training (OSUT) program, which combines basic combat training and advanced individual training into one 13-week period. The armor reconnaissance recon-naissance specialist course consists of weapons training, including in-cluding mines and .demolitions, maintenance of armor vehicles, map reading, communications, com-munications, and artillery ar-tillery adjustments.
