Fireside set in Mapleton Mr. and Mrs. George Murdock will be guest vocalists and speakers at the Mapleton Special Interest fireside October 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mapleton First, Fourth, Fifth Wards chapel. The Murdocks came to Mapleton from Arizona four years ago and grew to love the area while attending BYU. Mr. Murdock now serves in the Third Ward bishopric. Dr. Reid 'Springville Collects' exhibit closes Sunday at museum Only four days remain before the closing of "Springville Collects" at the Museum of Art. The exhibit of paintings and sculpture from the homes in town will come down after Sunday, said acting director Tim Rose. "Everybody from Springville who has seen this show has really enjoyed it. Everyone in town ought to see it before we return all the art work," Rose said. Some 90 pieces of art in the exhibit occupy most of the main floor of the museum. David and Toni Handy will present their program "Signs of the Times", which centers around the prophecies relating to the House of Israel. In this presentation presen-tation they combine slides, narration and music to dramatize past and current events in the Mid-East and show how these events are part of the "Signs of the Times" that point to the nearness of the second coming of Jesus Christ. The material has been gathered over many years of research and the slides are those taken in Israel. The narration is accompanied by a musical background which is a combination of LDS hymrfll, Israeli folk music and music composed com-posed by Toni Handy. Toni was born and raised in Oregon and began her college education in 1965 at Ricks College where she majored in music. She completed her music education at Brigham Young University in 1970. She has been a solosist in many operas and oratorios, and during 1965-70 was honored for her vocal achievements by receiving several awards, one of which included winning in the Regional Finals of the New York Metropolitan Opera auditions. David was born and raised in Southern California. With is mother, they formed an Israeli folk dance group in 1960. In 1964, this group toured the Midle East and Europe. As president of the group, David was appointed as an official Good Will Youth Ambassador Am-bassador to Israel by the city of Arcadia, Calif. After his mission he spent six months in Israel (1968) with the BYU semester aborad. In 1970, David and Toni were married. They are the parents of three sons. Chuck-wagon Fair Friday in Sixth Ward Springville Sixth Ward Chuck Wagon Fair will be held Friday night from 5:30 to 9:30 in the Kolob Stake Center. A special chuck wagon supper will be served with the menu including sloppy joes, hot dogs, Italian sandwiches, salads, root beer, and pie alamode. Families are invited to come and enjoy supper and make Christmas gift purchases from the assortment of "fair fare." Jason Thomas Bullock celebrated his first birthday on October 22, 1977. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay T. (Hazel Cheney) Bullock of Springville. 'Older Americans' program A new series on Public Television is slated to begin next month. "Over Easy" is a major new daily television series dealing with the concerns and interests of those over 55 years of age. Hosted by Hugh Downs, these highly entertaining, half-hour magazine variety programs will present useful and useable information, and are designed to attract a large audience. Special features will include studio and field visits with outstanding celebrity guests in government, education, sports, and the arts. Life-style segments will show the capacity of people in all walks of life to deal creatively with the problems and options of aging. Special areas of in Coming Cvent Jack LaLanne, undisputed un-disputed King of Physical Fitness, is living testimony to the fact that his philosophy really works, and he will share some of these secrets when he appears at the Salt Palace on Saturday, November 5. Jack will speak on Physical Fitness for every body from 7:30 p.m. to 10 P.M. in the Assmbly Room at the Salt Palace on that date. But those present will be in for a real treat when Jack makes his singing debut in Utah. He has recently teamed with Connie Haines and the dynamic duo are destined to set new records in a new field. Jack who knows no peers in the physical fitness field, swam one mile in Long Beach Harbor, handcuffed, shackled, and towing 13 boats containing 76 people, last year commemorating com-memorating the Bicentennial Bi-centennial year. His age - 62. But setting records is not new to this virtual human dynamo. At 40 he swam the Golden Gate under water with 140 pounds of equipment, including two air tanks, setting an undisputed world record. Jack's appearance in Salt Lake City is in conjunction with the Health and Weight Control Fair in Exhibition Hall at the Salt Palace, , November 5, and is sponsored by Forever Slim. Casting dates scheduled for 'Pageant of Arts' Casting tryouts for the sixth annual Utah Pageant of the Arts will be held Nov. 2 through 5 at the Pageant headquarters in the old junior high school building at 451 North Center. All prospective cast members will be photographed in the special photo booth between 7 and 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, according to directors David Brock-bank Brock-bank and Bill Kirk-pa Kirk-pa trick. Cast members of all ages will be required for all new show, which will be presented in 26 performances per-formances next June 9 through July 8. The show will be triple cast, with each cast member appearing ap-pearing in up to nine performances. No preschool pre-school children will be accepted, but other students and adults are cordially invited to attend the casting tryouts. A special need for mature men is noted, since one of the highlights of the 1978 season will be the recreation of Leonardo Div Vinci's famous "Last Supper," with 13 cast members. All persons attending the casting tryouts should wear straight legged pants and short sleeved blouses, shirts or tee shirts.
