The man gave information which led to the conviction of the person who shot the eagle. The informant witnessed the October, 1971, shotgun shooting of the young bald eagle and intercepted the shooter, who claimed, "It was just a hawk." The defendant was later fined $100 in a Federal Court. The eagle survived the shooting and was released to the wilds two months later. The injured right wing healed properly after treatment by an ornithologist. This reward was the second to be given under a nationwide reward program started by the Federation in 1971. It offers the $500 reward upon verification that the claimant's information was substantial assistance in obtaining a conviction for shooting a bald eagle. The claimant must request the reward in writing to the National Wildlife Federation, 1412 - 16th Street, N. W., Washington, D. C, within six months after conviction.
