Nineteen girls vie for Miss Springville title Nineteen girls have entered the Miss Springville Pageant which will be staged June 1 in the high school auditorium at 8 p.m. to determine who will represent the city in the celebrations during the summer months ahead and at all official gatherings where royalty is honored. Sponsored by the Alpha Theta Chapter ESA, the queen and her two attendants will reigh over the annual Art City Days celebration here June 8, 9, and 10 and will be featured particularly on the float in the parade Saturday morning at 10 a.m. June 10. In the meantime, since the entries have been closed, workshops will be given to the queen contest entrants on makeup, walking poise, and other phases in preparation for. the pageant. The winner of the pageant will be showered with gifts while her attendants also will be honored. Entries in the contest include the following: Annette Mecham, Patti Cutler, Judy Barker, Lori Martindale, Marlene Boyer, Jan Cherrington, Hilary Boyer, Sherry Rowley, Peggy Ar-chuletta, Ar-chuletta, Susan Robertson, Sharlene Ralphs, Becky Knight,, Patty Clinton, Ann Davies, Nancy Murdock, Jolene Bennett, Cay Howes, Dixie Lee Nalder, and Kaye Barney. Gem, mineral show opens Friday at Eldred Center Boyd Williams of this city and president of the Timpanogos Gem and Mineral Society, invites in-vites the public to attend the 14th annual Gem and Mineral Show free of charge, at the Eldred Center in Provo, Friday through Sunday, May 12, 13 and 14. Showtime hours are from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday but the show will only be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Among the special exhibits this year will be a flourescent display, unusual dinosaur skeletons, tektites (which are materials from outer space) and a large collection of cycads, among the oldest and rarest of fossils. The gems on exhibit will include in-clude both cabachons and faceted stones. Opals, jade, rubies, garnets, jaspers, agates and many others are among the precious and semi-precious stones to be shown. Original jewelry and the work of skilled gold and silver smiths and carved gemstones will also be shown by the members of the Utah County rockhound organization. A field trip is planned at 8 a.m. Saturday to a Utah County collecting area and anyone interested in-terested is invited to join the group. Films relevant to the hobby will also be shown each day. A swap table and a silent auction are planned and there will be several dealers. A polished rock table will be the major door prize and there will be many others donated by club members. There's no law in the world to force peoples, or nations, to agree.
