Show Page Eight The Springville Herald March 2, 1972 Bantam playoff tonight, 7:00; Friel's wins city championship Friel's Bantam basketball team completed league play with a 7-2 record to win the city championship and enter the region playoffs. The league ended in a two-way tie between Snow Dairy and Superior Asphalt with a playoff game tonight at 7 p.m. in the National Guard Armory to determine the winner who will also enter the region playoffs. Tuesday, March 7 in the Springville Armory, Friels will play the Nephi No. 3 team beginning at 6:30 p.m. Nephi No. 1 team will play the winner of Snow Dairy and Superior Asphalt in the 8 o'clock game. Estimates 489-6950 Local shooters do well in state rifle shoot Springville Jr. gallery rifle competitors did well in the Utah 1972 championship matches held at Highland High School rifle range in Salt Lake last Saturday. Garnering state champion honors in the individual events was William Ogilvie of Highland while state girl champion was Sandy Techmeyer of Hill Field. In the team events Highland's boys outshot all comers and were declared state team champions. In the girls class, four fair lasses from Logan emerged victorious as the girls team champions. In the 'B' class (14, 15 and 16 years old) team events, Logan came in first with the Springville-Mapleton team consisting of Rennie Christen-sen, Christen-sen, Richard Holmes, Mark Ostler and Scott Staheli coming very close behind for a second place. In the 'C class ( 13 y rs and under) teach events the Springville-Mapleton team consisting of Don Cheney, Pete Davies, Brent Holmes and Roger Killpack took first place. Other Springville-Mapleton Jr. club shooters receiving honors in the individual events were: Class TV: Richard Holmes, 3rd place prone, 3rd place kneel, 3rd place sit and kneel aggragate and 1st place in the four pos. aggragate. Kent, who won state honors during his high school wrestling for the Red Devils last year and the previous year, competed for Snow College in a nine-school Southwest Regional Tournament at Glendale, Arizona last Saturday. Kent wrestles in the 134 lb. class. Two other Snow wrestlers of the seven entered in the meet, qualified for the Minnesota finals. Kent is a freshman at the college. aggragate. At SHS Steve has been noted especially for his outstanding out-standing academic record and his athletic ability. In his first year of high school, Steve was sophomore class scholar. He was on the honor roll in his junior year and will graduate with high honors this spring. Steve has maintained a 4.0 grade point average. Active in athletics, Steve played on the varsity football team for two years and also played on the varsity basketball team. His leadership ability has been displayed in the club organizations as well as in sports. Presently he is serving as president of the Athletic Club and is secretary of the NFL. He is an active participant orr the SHS debate program. As a member of the Mapleton 3rd ward, Steve is a priest and has earned three individual awards.
