They are Lynda Freeman, queen, and Susan Edmunds, Peggy Griffith, and Dorothy Miner, attendants. Lynda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Freeman of Mapleton, Susan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. K. Edmunds of Mapleton, Peggie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Audie Carpenter of Spanish Fork, and Dorothy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Miner, of Mapleton. F. Dee Sanford was awarded the degree of Doctor of Education at recently held rites at Stanford University in California. Dr. Sanford is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sanford of this city. w Winner Of the C. B. Cooley Distinguished Service Award at the College of Southern Utah is Michael Davies of Springville, it was announced this week. Michael is the son of Mr. and Mrs. LaVar Davies. Recently receiving his commission com-mission as a second lieutenant in the Utah National Guard was Ralph Rostron of this city. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Rostron of Springville. Lieutenant Rostron has been assigend as a platoon leader in C Company of the 1457th Engineer Battalion. A musical play,"Papa and The Playhouse" has been scheduled for presentation June 26th through 28th by the Springville Stake MIA. Directing the play is Mrs. Merle Schreiner, with Mrs. Alberta Hoover as music director, and Wayne Smith business manager. In the cast are Kenneth Lauritzen, Chadley Ann Thacker, Farrell Huff,-Merlene Huff,-Merlene Schreiner, Barry Lauritzen, Robert Lauritzen, and Nyta Farrer. A building fund barbecue will be held Friday, June 21, under sponsorship of the Mapleton Second Ward. The location of the fete will be the Mapleton Park and a barbecued Turkey Supper will be sold. Farewell services have been set this Sunday for Elder James William Cragun, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Rumel Cragun. He has accepted a call to serve for two years in the North British IDS Mission. Pat Ostler, daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Donald Ostler, has completed a two-year course at the College of Southern Utah at Cedar City. She received her associate of science certificate. She served as student body vice president, was affiliated with Pi Rho Omega Sorority, and was active in LDS dramatics while at the college. Soup, Salad and a Sandwich 20 years ago- Assuming the duties of pastor of the Springville Community Church is the Reverend Wilford H. Luce Jr. He will be taking the added responsibilities of congregations at American Fork and Payson. He is a graduate of Seattle Pacific College and San Francisco Theological Seminary. A Springville man was elected recently to the post of Lieutenant Governor of District Four of Utah 20-30 Clubs. He is Dr. Creed Brimhall. He was elected at a convention held in this city. Miss Carol Friel was the recepient this week of a scholarship to the Utah State Agricultural College at Logan. The honor was awarded her on the basis of academic achievement at Springville High School. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Friel of this city. Springville Police officers have issued a warning of a crackdown on anyone found guilty of setting off firecrackers within the city limits. Persons found guilty of this act will have a stiff fine imposed upon them. It is unlawful to sell of purchase firecrackers or have them shipped into the city. Arriving home after service in Korea is Corporal Grant L. Nelson of this city. He has been given an honorable discharge from the military service. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George T. Nelson. Several blazes have kept local firemen busy recently. A large barn belonging to Mary Smart and about 15 brooders stoves and 25 feeders were destroyed in an evening fire, a mattress fire occurred in a basement, an overstuffed chair and rug were destroved in a later fire, and a back-fire from a conveyor motor started a blaze which burned several bales of hay. Mrs. Douglas Brown and two children returned recently from Iran, where they have been living for the past year and a half. They will remain with her parents in Provo and will be joined by Mr. Brown this fall. Springville Chief of Police H. M. Weight was recently elected as president of the Utah Peace Officers association, he was voted into this post at a convention con-vention held at Salt Lake City. Utah County Sheriff Theron Hall, also Bishop of the Springville Seventh LDS Ward, received a unique gift recently.
