Carina Dawson happily displays her trophy which she recently re-cently won when she placed first in the Powder Puff Race at Turpin Speedway, nosing out Betty Kelm as they crossed the finish line side by side. Carina was driver of Car 16 with Betty handling; No. 7 car. Sportsmen's Outing successful; winners in events announced One of the most successful Sportsmen's Outings was held during the past weekend by the Springville-Mapleton Wildlife Federation with over 300 people attending throughout the day Saturday. There were 80 who participated par-ticipated in the trap shoot and 22 rifle contest. Sixty participated in races and 75 children joined in their races. There were 30 competed in the kids fishing contest and over 50 were entered in the horseshoe pitching. Only disappointment of the event was the inability of Junie Gay Hunt being able to attend because of the severe wind storm that blocked travel from Grantsville. She reported she would be happy to attend next year. A fine program topped the day's activities off. In the competitive events the following winners were posted: Trap Shoot- Carl Curtis, first; Bob Snyder, second; Leo Mason, third. 22 shoot, men- Lloyd Barker, first; 22 shoot, boys- David Peay, first; 22 shoot- ladies-Helen ladies-Helen Mason, first. Horseshoe pitching, men-Lloyd men-Lloyd Barker, first; Wilford Gottfredson, second; Norman Barker, third. Horseshoe pitching, pit-ching, ladies- Rhea Warren, Pat Jackson, tied for first; Patsy Barker, third. Forty foot dart throw, ladies-Patsy ladies-Patsy Barker, first; Olive Porter and Geniel Crandall tied for second. Brown won over John Deuel in Saturday's races at the Turpin Speedway. Trophy queen on hand to do the honors was Roxey Hall from Orem. The C trophy was won by Jack Dawson car 16; B trophy was won by John Deuel, car 36. Races will continue again this Saturday. Time trials for Saturday will get underway at 7 p.m. with the races starting at 7:30 p.m. i Strong club gets upset win oyer top Bates team An upset rocked the otherwise run-of-the mill results in the North Springville Mustang League during the week when Strong Co. Since he's been wagging fingers, the number of forest fires in America has been cut in half. But millions of acres of trees still burned down last vear. And T of the fires were started by the same people who have been hearing "Only you can prevent forest fires" for 26 years. We've got to get rid of all those deaf yahoos before we think about putting jjfe Smokey out to JJ peaceful pastures.
