Pi 10 Wednesday, May 11, 1949 Episcopal Women Of Utah Attend Quarterly Conclave jj; Delegates from throughout the state gathered Tuesday in Provo to attend the quarterly conclave of the Women's Auxiliary of the Missionary District of Utah, affiliated with the St. Mary's Episcopal church. ' 4 President of the state organization is Mrs. Edith V. Weeks of Ogden, who presided at the morning and afternoon sessions. Right Reverend Stephen C. Clark, D. D., was Celebrant Cele-brant at the Holy Communion service which began the con- vention at 10:30 a. m. 'At 11:15 a. m. the women met for a business meeting where reports re-ports from various St. Mary's Guild officers were given, and -a recommendation made or a new budget. ' ' : Luncheon was served at noon under the direction lof t Mrs. Ray Coffey. Mrs. Joe H. Moore directed. di-rected. dining room arrangements, which were bright with colorful bouquets of iris, lilacs and roses. Dinner hour entertainment was furnished by Mrs. Douglas Lee, who sang three solos, accom panied by Mrs. Marvin W. Gease Featured speaker at the after- noon session was tne Keverena J. I Robert Nicholas of Kemlworth, who gave an address on the "Church of Divinity School of the Pacific." A round table discussion on the recent senate held in Seattle, Wash., was conducted by Janice Overfield, Mrs. Pichal and Mrs. Stephen C. Clark. Mrs. E. C. Bader also discussed senate happenings. hap-penings. Spring Party Held Recently Spring was in the air when Cleofan club women gathered recently re-cently to honor their mothers at an annual party. Hostess for the occasion was Mrs. Frank Lawrence. Lawr-ence. It Mrs. Prank Madsen, president, welcomed guests, and Colleen Lawrence, daughter of the hostess, entertained the group- with two vocal solos, accompanied by Mrs. Mildred Ulmer. Mrs. Leathe Tatge, a guest from Midway, gave several sev-eral readings for the enjoyment of her audience. ; Luncheon was served in a setting set-ting of soft spring flowers, and a watercolor painting was given to each mother as a favor.. Mrs. Lewis Clegg received a telephone call" from her daughter, daugh-ter, Mrs. Phyllis McDonald,, who is living in New York City. Mrs. McDonald wished Mrs. Clegg Mother's day greetings. Mrs. U. K. Allen had as her guests last week Mr. and Mrs. Ray Downs and children of Salt Lake City and Mr. and Mrs. Howard How-ard Gray and children of Lehi. Mother's day greetings were extended ex-tended to Mrs. Allen by telegram from her son. Shirley, who is attending at-tending , a radio school in, New Jersey. Another son, Jesse, called greetings from York, Penn. A group of former missionary friends of Joseph H. Clegg from Provo and Salt Lake City met at his home for an out-door party recently. All of the men labored in the Central states field. The group participated in singing and games. Mrs. Jessie Sumsion of Salt Lake City spent Mother's day here with her three daughters and their families, Mrs. Harold Hold-away, Hold-away, Mrs. Ray Gammon and Mrs. Max Blake. DAILY HERALD Girls' Day Plans Told Friday will, be annual Girls day at the American Fork high school. Plans for activities were announced by Miss Margaret Hansen, dean of girls. Betty Dimmick, president o fthe Girls' League is general chairman of the program, beginning with an assembly at 9:30 a.m. The script for the assembly program which centers around the theme "And Suddenly It's Spring" was written by Barbara Faddis. Following the assembly there will be a fashion review at 2 p directed bv Wanda Winn m. directed by Wanda Winn, do mestic art department head. Models from the sewing classes will display articles of clothing made in classes this year. La Rae Robinson and Cleo Wagstaff have written the script and the main characters in the style review re-view skit are Barbara Faddis and Ramah Peterson. Mothers of the girls will be guests and will be welcomed by Betty Dimmick. Mrs. Earl Hansen Han-sen will respond in behalf of the mothers. The review will be held in the high school auditorium, and will be followed at 3 p. m. by a tea in the LDS seminary building for mothers and girls. Mrs. Eugene Tuckett and the members of her home-living class are in charge of the tea, with Joan Kolstad, vice-president and Wanda Larson, senior representative represen-tative of the Girls' League, acting act-ing as chairman. Special music for the occasion will be furnished by Connie Robinson, Nadine Monson and La Rae Batchelor, string trio, and by Darlene Stic, Janet White and Patricia Day, vocal trio. Faculty women will be hostesses hostes-ses for the tea. Mrs. Rex Dimmick Dim-mick and Mrs. Jesse M. Walker, mothers of the League president and high school principal will be honor guests. Helen Parker will preside at the tea table, assisted by Wanda Larson, Reva -flunsaker, and Edna Ed-na Shipley. League officers and members of the home-living class will serre. The activities of the day will end with a dance in Firmage hall at 9 p.. m. June Dunsdon, secretary of the League; Kath- ryh Smith, junior representative and Elaine Greening, sophomore representative are in charge of arrangement?. Janice Chadwick has made the dance programs. Invitations have been issued to the mothers of all senior and junior jun-ior high school girls to attend the day's activities. ... Orem DUP Joins Current Drive OREM 6rem Camps of the Daughters .of the Utah Pioneers are joining with others throughout through-out the county in a rag drive which is being conducted during the first two weeks in May. Proceeds Pro-ceeds from the colection will be added to building funds for the state DUP memorial building to be constructed in Salt Lake City. Rags for rfhe Timpanogos Camp may be left at the home of Mrs. Grace Hansen, while those for the Orem Camp are being collected at the home of Mrs. Ethel Finch. . Ward Golden Gleaner Named Miss Janet Baum was announc ed a Golden Gleaner at the recent sheaf binding ceremony conduct ed by a Gleaner class of Pleasant View ward in Sharon LDS stake. Miss Ruby Nicol held the honored position last year. The event took place in the ward chapel, with mothers of the girls as honored guests. Each mother was 'given a rose during the evening. " . Auxiliary Holds Annual May Fete SALEM Annual May party of the American Legion auxiliary took place last week in the Salem LDS ward church, with President Alice Mattinson in charge. Margrette Taylor gave the prayer, and the preamble was repeated re-peated by the group, followed by a pledge of allegiance to the flag. A tribute was paid to the late Ella Farley, former member of the auxiliary. Norah Nelson was in charge of the following program: address of welcome, President Mattinson; violin solo, Carol Morby, accompanied accom-panied by Beatrice Davis; tribute to mothers, Lovine Ottisen; vocal solo, Lavonda Sheen; tribute, De-vetta De-vetta Stewart; and an article on Poppy day, Mrs. Mattinson. Assisting Mrs. Nelson with pro gram arrangements were Florence Valgaardsen, Beatrice Davis and Velma Davis.
