At College Hall Dress rehearsals are being held tonight foe the Brigham , Young university 1 presentation, of the sardonic border-life comedy, "The Bad Man" which opens for a three-night . run Thursday at 8:15 p. m. in college nail. Featuring Dr. Alonzo J. Mor- ley of the BYU speech faculty, the play is being colorfully- costumed cos-tumed in bright contrast ranch clothes and staged in effective ranch style, according to Dr. T. Earl Pardoe, chairman of the speech department and director of the play. Dr. Morley will play , the role of Pancho Lopes, a band-It. band-It. Twenty years aro, while a student at BYU, he played role of Henry Smith, the ... crippled uncle, in this same play. In the 1948 version that part is being played by Bryee Spencer of Cardston, Alberta, Canada. Staging is by Preston Gledhill with Shirley Fifrnsworth as student stu-dent director. Romantic leads are being played play-ed by Anne Greaves of Salt Lake City and Chris Sanders of Fairvlew. Other cast members are Kirk Wilkins-of Roosevelt, Gene Earle of 'Provo, Max Golightly of Preston, Idah., Norma Boyle of Provo, Grant Clyde of Spring-ville, Spring-ville, Dick Dominquez o f Phoenix, Ariz., Evelyn Morgan of Salt Lake City, and Newell Miles of Bancroft, Ida. Gilbert, scheduled to speak to Kiwanis club on United Nations Appeal for Children. Noted Yoman to Address Kiwanis Mrs. Ethel B. Gilbert, North American director of the United Nations Appeal for Children, will address the Provo Kiwanis club Thursday, it was announced today to-day by Weldon J. Taylor, program pro-gram chairman. John F. Mower, second vice president, will preside pre-side and Orson M. Slack, privi leged member of the club, will be program chairman. Qualified by an extensive tour of Europe end many months of service with the United Nations secretariat, Mrs. Gilbert has ' a background of wide and varied experience. She has been a dis tinguished public speaker for more than thirty years. Her address before the Kiwanis club will be chiefly concerned with the general campaign for American Overseas Aid and the United Nations Appeal for children chil-dren which will be conducted nationally during the month of May. It is estimated that more than 230 million starving children chil-dren in devastated countries of the world are depending on this international fund-raising campaign cam-paign for survival. Announcement of local campaign cam-paign committee members to direct di-rect the Crusade for Children in Provo and Utah county during the month of May will be made shortly after her appearance in Provo. Hawaiian Islands, it was announced an-nounced today . by President Howard S. McDonald. Dr. Morley,' professor of speech at BYU and director of the speech clinic and debating, will leave uus lall with his family. He will return for the 1949 autumn quarter. While in Hawaii Dr.. Morley plans to complete a book ' on voice and diction, to do some research re-search on the native drama of the islands, and to compile a collection col-lection of native legends and stories. During the summer of his ear's study leave, Dr. Morley will teach at two university summer sessions, ' a class in speech correction at the Univer sity of Oregon extension in Port land and a class in public speak- ins at the post summer session of the University pf Southern California in Los Angeles. Dr. Morley has been secretary of the Western Speech association associa-tion for the past two years.
