UTAH THURSDAY, APRIL 35, 14 PAGE 9 Your G I Rights WASHINGTON. Vnf.A'V Un employment rights of veterans are the subject of the following questions: Q X "was a WAC, and was a governess before I went into the service. Do have re-employment rights? A That would depend unon whether or not yoijr former em-; ployer was in a position to rehire re-hire you, or was still in need of a governess. Q I am a veteran, and came back to my old job to find , a man who had been with the company com-pany longer than I in my place. He had been moved up. They say that if I get that job he will have to be fired. Temporarily, I have taken another job with the company com-pany which doesn't pay as much. I understand that the Supreme Court has now decided that I have a right to my old job, regardless re-gardless of who has to be fired. Is that true? And will he be fired automatically to make room for me? A The question of super-seniority is now pending before the Supreme Court in the form of a test case. It hasn't been decided yet. Even if so-called super-seniority should be upheld by the court, it won't be mandatory for a company to enforce it unless a veteran insists on exercising his rights. In your case, the man won't be fired unless you demand your old job back. Q I applied for reinstatement in my old job . . a little more than two months after I got out of the service. Before I applied, however, how-ever, I held another job, which at the time seemed to have more future. Now my former employer tells me that I gave up any right to reinstatement by working for another company. Is that true? A No. As long as you apply for reinstatement within 90 days, and meet all other requirements, your pre-service employer is required re-quired to give you your old job. Q Does a vet who goes back to his old job have the same vacation vaca-tion rights he had before he was inducted? A Yes. Q I -would like to go back to Europe as a civil service clerk. I want to go back to the place at which I served In the Army. Can I get a job with the government which will guarantee me-, this place? A No. As a veteran you get preference for a federal job, but you need not be sent any place you ask to be.
