Jeppson (Rhoda May Goates) who were married in the St. George temple Saturday. Satur-day. The newlyweds .have been honeymooning in-Bryce canyon. The bride, a senior student at the BYU, is a daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Goates of St. George, and the groom, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Royal M. Jeppson of Black-foot, Black-foot, Idaho. Two-hundred and fifty guests called during the 'ev ening. Handsome gifts were presented pre-sented to the young couple. Beautiful calla lilies and white tapers were combined to form the attractive decorations for the hall. The parents headed the receiving re-ceiving line, Lt. Ralph Goates of Salt Lake City attended his brother as best man; Mrs. Walter Snow of St. George, sister of the bride, was matron of honor, and the bridesmaids were Miss Jeanne Goates of St George, a sister, and Mrs. Bruce Reese of Provo, an intimate, in-timate, friend. The bride wore a beautiful gown of brocaded satin and lace entrain, and her shoulder length veil of lace was caught to carnations car-nations and pink sweetheart roses. ros-es. Her lover's knot bouquet was centered with an orchid, and featured hyacinths, pink sweet heart roses and carnations. The attendants were in lovely pink gowns and held colonial bouquets of carnations and roses. The bride will complete her senior year at the BYU this year. She is president of the White Keys, secretary of Gamma Phi Omlcron, and a member of the Cesta Ties. Judd, chairman, was in charge, and the Collect was given by Mrs. H. B. Smith. A French horn solo was played by Melvin Billings, accompanied by Farrell Madsen and two solos were sung by Margarita Batista, accompanied by Mrs. John Hil- gendorff. Hostesses were Mrs. Joel T. Brown and Mrs. L. N. Oakley, and the program was in charge of Mrs. Frank Hawkins and Mrs. T. C. Larsen. Beautiful daffodils were used in decorating. MEDICAL AUXILIARY The Utah County Medical Society So-ciety auxiliary is holding luncheon lunch-eon Thursday at 2 o'clock at the Chicken ROost. All members of the auxiliary and widows of the doctors are invited. After the luncheon, the women will visit the Springville art exhibit. Return From oon Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gordon (Ellen Gay Kerby) who were married in the Manti temple, April 10, have. returned from their honeymoon trip to the canyon in southern Utah, -and Arizona cities, and are making their home in Edgemont. Pres. Anderson united the young couple in marriage. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Minta Kerby of. Provo, and Mr. Gordon, a son of John Gordon of Edgemont. They were accompanied through the temple by the bride's mother; her sister and brother- in-law, Mr. ad .Mrs. Lawrence Smith, and the groom's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Pyne. Another of Mr. Gordon'a sisters, Mrs. Florence Baum accompanied the wedding party to Manti. Writer's Group At Interesting Meet; Officers Elected The writer's section, sponsored by Mrs. Eliza Fillmore, art chairman chair-man of the Women's Council held at meeting Monday evening in the Women's clubhouse. The program was under the direction of Mrs. Romania A. Overson, president of the section. Three new officers were elected, elect-ed, Mrs. Melba Payne, first vice-president; vice-president; Mrs. Phyllis B. Phillips, Phil-lips, second vice-president; Mrs. Inez B. Allred. "keeper" of a scrapbook which will feature the writings and activities of the eroup. Officers elected at an earlier meeting were Mrs. Ove- son, president and Mrs. Leola Hawley, secretary and treasuer. A delightful study hour followed fol-lowed during which the women present discussed "couplets" and read their original poems written writ-ten in this form. The women included, in-cluded, Mrs. Oveson. Mrs. Payne, Mrs. Allred, Mrs. Althea Kimball. Mrs. Virginia Keeler. Mrs. Bert Crane, Mrs. Donna Palmer, Mrs. Velma D. Penrod and Mrs. Lucile Lu-cile Waiker, Mrs. Merlina D. Clyde. Mrs. Inez Cooper and Mrs. Phyllis Phillips read original short stories . Mrs. Althea Kimball gave a definition and examples of the "tercet", the form which will be used during the next meet ins of .the poetry group. A special meeting for feature article and short story writers will be held Tuesday evening, April 23 at the home of Mrs. Velma Vel-ma D. Penrod, 958 West Second South street in Provo. Guest speaker for the next general general 'session May 6 will be Mrs. Lucile Walker of Pleasant Grove, member and feature fea-ture writer. Two-hundred enjoyed the gala event. "Life In Your Hands" was the theme, and the napkins and programs featured the mohogrammed inscription. Daffodils were in dainty bouquets on the banquet tables. Bert Olsen welcomed the crowd, and as toastmaster and toastmistress, Chester Olsen and Nina Luke represented ine ai men ana uieaners. rney gave toasts, and the remainder of the program was presided over by Mr. Olsen. Included were a vocal vo-cal solo, Carol Benth; string trio, Erlene Lewis, Nelma Jean Jones and Geraldine Taylor, accompanies accompan-ies by Belva Menlove; solo, Max Stubbs, accompanied by Dorothy Young. Mrs. Joseph Anderson of Salt Lake City, represented the general gen-eral YMMIA . board, and she spoke. Also, her huSband made a few remarks. Stake MIA board members were introduced, also. The stake Gleaners had the affair af-fair In charge, the committee comprising representatives from the 10 wards in the stake. During separate meetings held before the dancing, stake Gleaner and M Men officers were elected. Newly elected Gleaners are Arlene Lewis, president; Afton Lichfield, vice president, Carma Watson, secretary and treasurer and Elaine Sperry, historian. Those released were Mrs. Darlene K. Laws, president; Beverly Duckett, vice president; La Jean Sturgis, secretary and treasurer, and Shirley Meservy, historian. A stake M Men's organization was effected, Harry Startup being be-ing named president; and Don Waterlyn and Gaylen Dahlquist, 1 vice-presidents. Reception For Newlyweds PLEASANT GROVE A wedding wed-ding reception was given in the Pleasant Grove First ward hall, Monday evening, by Mr. and Mrs. Alfred A. Richins, in honor of their daughter, Cora, and Vernal B. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph H. Smith, of Cedar Fort, who were recently married. The bride is a graduate of the Pleasant Grove high school and the L D S seminary. The groom was recently discharged from the armed forces. For the reception the bride wore a princess model of peach chiffon and her corsage was of gardenias and red roses. Miss Glenda Richins, sister of the bride, was her only attendant. and she wore a dainty gown of pale pink chiffon and corsage of red roses. Robert Smith, brother of the groom, was best man. The parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richins and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, assisted in receiving. William C. Smith was master of ceremonies, and . during the vev ning of dancing, a plana solo was given by Miss Nelda Johnson;-: reading by LaNeve Smith, and a piano solo by Miss Jane Johnson. The many beautiful gifts were received by sisters of the groom. Refreshments were served to the many guests. Vineyard Miss Arva Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vern Williams, has accepted a call to fill a mission mis-sion to the Western Canadian mission. She will enter the mission mis-sion home in Salt Lake May 20 and will leave for her field of labor May 29.
