Ashton, assistant county agent. Mr. Ashton warned Utah county fruit growers that the borer attacks at-tacks practically all stone fruits, in ddition to peaches. Apricots and prunes may be especially hard hit, and even sweet and sour cherries damaged. Best control can be had by treating for borer control within the next few days. All eggs are hatched and the young borers are easily killed. Up to now the new brood of borers have done very little damage, but may do serious damage during the warm fall weather and early spring. Most eff icent control can be had by treating the trunk of the tree with an emulsion of ethylene dichloride. This emulsion can be obtained from your spray dealer as a 50 per cent emulsion which should be diluted with water according ac-cording to instructions on container. con-tainer. Care should be taken to see that the proper dosage of emulsion is equally distributed about the trunk of the tree from the ground to a height of about eight inches. The ground about the base of the tree should be in such a shape that the solution solu-tion will setle against the base of the tree rather than run away from it. After the solution is applied, a few shovel's of dirt should be piled evenly about the trunk of the tree to the height the solution solu-tion wet the trunk. No other care is necessary, but be sure you treat for borer control now. NAVY FLIER KILLED PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 10 (U.R) The navy announced that Lt. Commander John Howe Lackey, Washington state, was killed Saturday Sat-urday when his plane, enroute from Groton, Conn., to Harris-burg, Harris-burg, Pa., crashed in the fog about 25 miles north of Reading, Pa. The plane was not located until nightfall by State Trooper William Wil-liam Strickland, who kept an all night vigil by the dead pilot and next morning brought the victim's vic-tim's body to Reading.
