Linnets Cage Held Too Small SLOUGH, England (U.R) Hen ry Jeffs was fined three dollars for keeping two linnets in a .cage not wide enough for them to spread their wings. The birds had a wingspread of over IVx inches and their cage measured 6i inches long, 4 inches wide, 7 4 inches high. The charge was "keeping birds other than poultry permanently in such confinement." Jeffs pleaded this type cage was on general sale in London where he bought them. The clerk of the court explained their use was lawful for birds traveling or on show for not more than 72 hours. Jeffs asked plaintively, "Are pan-rots poultry? You see them in every pub in cages which don't give them room to stretch their wings."
