Opera To Benefit Girls' Home Club Calendar A tri-stak? entertainment in benefit of the M, I. A. Girls' Canyon home, will be featured at the Paramount theater, March 12, when the "The Gondoliers," or "The King of "Baratraia." an opera by Gilbert and Sullivan," will be presented. The utah-Sharon-Provo M.I.A. canyon home committee is sponsoring spon-soring the event, proceeds from which will be used for refriger ation for the canyon home. The opera will take the place or the annual arts course sponsored by the M. I. A. of the three stakes and gives promise of being a highlight event. Drs. Franklin and Florence Jepperson Madsen are directing the music; Dr. and FRIDAY BRIDGE Mrs. Frank Reynolds will be hostess to members of the Friday Afternoon Bridge club v at her uome Friday. U. C. T. Chapters Join For Dancing Party A Valentine semi-formal danc ing party win be held Friday eve ning in the-Joaquin school audi torium by four B. Y. TJ. chapters of Lamda Delta Sigma, national L- D. S. social fraternity. Dancing will begin at 8:30 p. m. to the music of Curt Curtis and his orchestra. "Lavender and Old Lace" will b3 the theme of the affair, wTiich is directed by KafTierine Kirk and Reese E. Fawcette. The evening will be featured by a floor show ailTI the singing- of the fraternity Sweetheart song. Other members of the commit tee are Louise Abegg, Cenella Fagg, Dave Salisbury, and Eldin Ricks, vice presidents of the four chapters. Leland Wakefield is in charge of the decorations. Following dinner, the party at tended the Paramount theater 4 Cultus Club Sefs Open Session PAYSON Mrs. Glayds Wilson, chairman of the Cultus club international inter-national relations committee is in charge of the program for the club meeting for Wednesday, Feb. 19. This is a special open session and will be held at the Wilson Little Lit-tle theater at 7:30 p. m. and is for all club members, partners and friends. The speakers will be Arthur Gaeth of the Brigham Young university faculty, well known radio commentator. He will talk on "International Relations." A piano duet will be given by Mrs. Bernice Wilson and Mrs. Lois Greenwood. President Hazel Er- landson will be in charge. Utah stake Primary board members enjoyed a pleasant time at the home of Mrs. Olva Brim hall Wednesday evening. Sweet peas, acacia and potted plants beautifully decorated the rooms. A tasty chicken dinner was served at small tables, at tractive with Valentine covers and favors. An afghan was displayed which has been knitted by the board members for the Primary chil dren's hospital in Salt Lake City Two violin solos were played by Miss Maxine Tavlor, accompanied by Miss Chloe Friday. The cheer committee honored Mrs. Mattie Hinckley for her 20 years of work in the Irlmary, and she was presented with a beauti ful picture by Bessie E. Gour ley. Mrs. Robee Coleman read an original poem giving the his tory of Mrs. Hinckley in connec tion with her Primary work Birthday remembrances were also given by Mrs. Clara'Taylor, Mrs Mabel Clark and Mrs. Hinckley Progressive games were played, prizes going to Mrs. Rena Hoover and Mrs. Clara Taylor. Change Made in Senior Hop Theme A Spanish theme will replace the military theme planned for the Provo high school senior hop, Feb. 21, according to Bruce Reese, senior class president. The change has been made be cause of difficulties encountered in planning a color scheme, and because of student sentiment against the military arrangements, arrange-ments, Mr. Reese announces. Colors depicting the Spaniards love of brilliance turquoise blue, vermillion, canary yellow, and white, will be blended as a background back-ground for decorations. This second semi-formal of the school year will establish a precedent prec-edent in the respect that corsaees will be banned. This ruling of the student council will be effective at all future dances. Birthday Dinner Is Delightful BENJAMIN Mrs. Thomas Wride gave a surprise dinner party at the family home Monday evening, honoring her husband, on his seventy-first birthday anniversary. an-niversary. A birthday cake held 71 candles and flowers were also used to decorate. A program and games followed the dinner, and gifts were presented to Mr. Wride. Girl Scouts at Valentine Party A gay Valentine party was given by the Friendly Neighbor Girl Scout troop No. 1, Wednesday Wednes-day evening at Meno Trope hall, with members of troop No. 2, and their leader, Mrs. Grace Spear, as honor guests. The girls were greeted on arrival ar-rival by Mrs. Eva Brannon, leader; lead-er; Kathleen Norton, president, and Frances Hitchcock, vice president. presi-dent. A color scheme of red and white predominated in the decorations. Rounds and relay games were played, and later, a huge Valen tine box filled with dainty Valentines Val-entines was opened by Patricia Aiken, who appeared in an at tractive Valentine costume. While singing Girl Scout songs. the guest marched past the Val entine box until each had received three Valentines. A bean-guess ing contest proved a lively event, also. Amaryllis Gaither received the Girl Scout door prize; Rosalie Robison, the contest prize and Mrs. Spear and Audrey Mehl, the birthday awards. Delicious refreshments were served to 42 guests. A large box of Valentines to be sent to the Utah County infirm ary by troop No. 1. Officers Feted After Meeting A social followed the regular metting of Valley Chapter No. 3, O. E. S., held at the Masonic temple Tuesday evening. Mrs. Vera Perham of Springville, Spring-ville, worthy matron, was in charge of the business. The party was given by officers of the order, in honor of Mrs. Perham, and Herman Grimm, worthy pa tron. Dvlicious refreshments were served to GO members, the long table being decorated in the patriotic patri-otic colors. Flags formed the centerpiece, cen-terpiece, and red, white and blue streamers and candles were cm-ployed, cm-ployed, also. Bridge, Luncheon Club Diversions Bridge was the diversion at the VarietyArts club meeting held Tuesday evening at the home of Miss Mildred Condon.
