VJ. v.V) Herbert Edwards, 26, shot and seriously wounded his former wife, Harriette, 18, and killed himself today as the aftermath of a broken marriage. According to police, Edwards went to the home of Mrs. Edwards' Ed-wards' parents, where she had been living- for some time, shot her once in the abdomen and once in the breast, then turned the gun on himself. Detectives said Edwards apparently appar-ently was infuriated over his wife's obtaining1 a divorce in court here last Saturday, , and jealous over her going: out with other men. The couple, police said, had been separated about a year after only about a year of married life. They have one small child. Strike of Clerks Staged in Oakland OAKLAND, Calif.. Dec. 12 r.P Leaders of the AFL retail clerks union met here today to discus consolation of the union's drive apainst Montgomery Ward stores in 31 western states which already has resulted in action against the company in Alameda, and Contra Costa county, Calif., Portland, Ore., and Fresno, Calif. Spokesmen for Montgomery Ward said that picketing of its Oakland plant "was the result of the refusal of Wards to agree to a closed shop. No dispute existed as to wages or hours." The conference of union leaders here was called by William Wood, president of the retail clerks, and James F. Galliano, union attorney.
