Jennie Thomas is another of Provo'a silent and unproclaimed needle artists of whom we are so very proud, not alone for their beautiful work but for their own intrinsic worth as home builders and stabilizers of society in general. gen-eral. The values of life today are weighed by false scales which dtp alarmingly downward, but Mrs. Thomas has kept a fine poise and balance along- the highroad of the pood life and worthy endeavor which today sets her apart as one of the outstanding women of our community. She holds to the sound philosophy philoso-phy that her paramount interests are centered in her home and family, fam-ily, her church duties and obligations. obliga-tions. Her .services in the different differ-ent organizations of the stake and ward have b:en of a high order. Sincerity and devotion to her calling wherever it might be characterizes all her work. She is now president of the Fifth ward Relief society where she so ably presides. Alongside these interests of horn? and public life runs a thread of personal inclination which stic has stitched into many fine durable dur-able quilts both for her own children chil-dren and others who she knew would appreciate so generous a gift as a good warm quilt. "I really wanted to be a nurse,'' she told me. "but circumstances ruled against my first choice, and then I turned to sewing and quoting, quot-ing, my present hobby. and 1 dearly love it for it has brought me much joy and satisfaction." The day I visited her a half finished quilt Suspended in the frames was waiting for this thread of desire and her deft fingers to complete. She has made dozens and dozens doz-ens of them, all different designs and patterns. The urge to acquire new arrangements of blocks and color scheme is always fascinating to the quilt makers, and Idrs. Thomas i.s noted for her excellent choice in this respect- II?r labors carry her personality along with them and the world is being made better and happier because of th'm. I am safe in saving that all who know Mrs. Thomas will join with i me in passing on to her this small bouquet from our own gardens, with the hope that she will long enjoy its fragrance.
