I have baen reading the different dif-ferent articles dealing with the, better and cheaper housing plans, for people who' today are living in very unsatisfactory' tenement houses and districts. ; I have a plan I would like to explain in your column, for building homes for .the class? of people whose earning power is so small that they are .not apt to have the pleasure' of owning their own home in any other way. After I have explained "this plan I wtiuld like to hear fromA others in regard to it. Especially those who can give reasons why it will not work. In this way we, possibly can perfect a plan that will be attractive enough to interest in-terest some of the officials of our city, state or government. In the first place we are fortunate for-tunate enough here, to have , large forests that have hardly been touched as far as saw timber is concerned. The county has many acres of land that would be ideal to place a building project on. We also have, the W. P. A. Among the men working on the W. P. A., today, are every kind Tf skilled i kjabor necessary to mill every kind of woods: material, and every kind of laborHo construct a home and the same for plumbing, etc. There is no taxes being derived de-rived from these pieces of land that the county has acquired throueh the non-payment of J taxes. So, why not place a building build-ing project on one of the parcels of land? Make the land an asset instead of a Uability. Why not create a W. P. A. project to K put in sewer system, water, walksand .streets ? Also excavate" f or v houses, put in . We could then put a W. P. A. project in the timber sawing and preparing all the necessary wooa material to construct the homes. We could use the W. P. A. trucks to transport the materials from the mills, or do any other hauling necessary. Now we would have to depend on some government agency to furnish a sawmill or rent one of the small mills already placed in our neighboring timber. But when you see the great amount of equipment the government is buying and furnishing on otner projects, I am sure that a suit- 'able mill, Isuch as we would need. proud pvnor FORUM v-. for the project could be arranged for. , ,.:. y After some investigating I have determined ; i that approximately $600 would be nepessary to pay for. plumbing fixtures and hardware hard-ware necessary ,to build a, four-room four-room house with, one-half, basement, base-ment, and ' alsor the necessary cement. Of , course, " this material rould be. bought on a cooperative ho o!o 1 ' ' Now asfast as these houses are completedMet the Home Owners Own-ers Xx)an corporation take - a mortgage on each homeland what landi it ia decided to place .with ekch house, for enough money, to pay for the cash outlay and the amount determined to be paid the county or city for the land., v : J - The totaj. amount -cf ' encumbrance" encumb-rance" on a home under v this setup set-up should not run more than $1000, " completed and ready ,to liVe in. Undr the government's plan the payments would be" very low; making; it possible for; any W. P. A. client who is renting at the present to be able to pay for one of these , houses. It would also make it possible for. the man that has struggled ? and kept ff the W. P. A. to own his own home. ' And all people become an asset to their community when they, are home owners. Let's hear from others. E. R. L. Free Show Set Saturday Morning Saturday morniW at 9:30 the Uinta theater is bringing the big-- gest free show to Provo that has' even been shown.
