Third Rural Mail Route Asked For Orem Region OREM The. establishment of an additional rural mall route in Orem to Improve mail -delivery service has been.' recommended by J. T. Gardner, postal inspector inspect-or of Salt Lake City, after a five day survey of the city, The survey sur-vey was made' in response to letter written by the Orem' Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce requesting that a house-to-house delivery system be established in Orem. After the' "completion of the survey, which included a mapping map-ping of Orem streets;: sidewalks, crosswalks, street lighting, proximity prox-imity of houses- in particular areas and other important phases phas-es to-be, considered in mail, delivery, de-livery, Mr. Gardner made the recommendation that the third mail route be established. , He stfid house-to-house delivery is not feasible at this time. Rapid growth of, the city has overburdened the present postal facilities in Orem with increases in rural delivery, service of be- t tween IS to 20 percent during the past year. Rural route No. 1 covers cov-ers 31.96 miles and the No. 2 route is 23.36 miles. It is felt by postal authorities that the new route wouIdMncrease: mail delivery, deliv-ery, service adequately under present conditions. In recent communications, from postal authorities to .Mayor J. W. Gillraan the need "for more adequate ade-quate housing of the Orem post-off post-off ice was , recognized! However, in view of the fact that the new federal budget included no allotment allot-ment for: federal buildings it was suggested that the city of Orem or some private enterprise build a structure to house the postal department. de-partment. This would' be rented by the government until such time as a . federal building could be provided. ' The city council is in agreement agree-ment that the financing of such city to consider at this time and a building is impossible for the the hew building must, come from private enterprise.: Several! citizens have offered to construct the building in a central location under the proposed conditions, and further developments are being be-ing awaited.
