Seven entries have been received re-ceived ta date, he said, but several sev-eral wards still do not have a contestant. It Is possible someone some-one may win $25 war bond by being the' only entrant from a particular ward, he stated. Canes Needed For Wounded War Vets At least 24 canes for returned re-turned wounded war vets must be supplied by the local chapter of the junior Red Cross, according to Mrs. William Wil-liam J. 6now, chairman and Mrs. David Reese, publicity chairman. The two women Saturday broadcast an appeal to Provo citizens for donation of the canes,, as the -material for their manufacture is unavailable. un-available. The local chapter's quota Is part of a national drive to supply these items for returning return-ing vets. Donors are urged to take the canes to the Red Cross office in the city and county building. Taxpayers to Meet At Page School Edgemont and Pleasant View taxpayers will meet art the Page school Monday, Dec. 17 at 8 p. m., to discuss taxes and to organize organ-ize a local unit of a county taxpayers tax-payers organization. Close hag arrived ar-rived home following his discharge dis-charge from the army after 33 months of service, 26 of them overseas. Cpl. Close was with the 1st army in England, and participated in that units f invasion of f France. He plans to enter school at the beginning of the year. 80 World War II Vets to Join American Legion SPANISH FORK Nearly 80 veterans of World War II will become be-come members of Spanish Fork American Legion post 68 at initiation in-itiation ceremonies Dec. 21 in the Firemen's hall, according to Commander Com-mander Rueben L. Christianson. The post is expected .to surpass its quota of 135, set by the state organization for 1946, even before the new year begins. The initia tion ceremonies will begin at 8 p. m., with W. Stanley Dunford, district judge and prominent legionnaire, le-gionnaire, as the principal speaker. The evening will also Include a dutch lunch and program. Simmons Writes Take-OffOn Income Taxes "Income Tax Insomnia," a hu morous tax guide written by Al-mo Al-mo B. Simmons of Provo, has recently re-cently come off the press and is meeting with a wide response from public officials and publish ers and the tax-paying public; Mr. Simmons, an experienced public accountant, specializing in tax returns, states that the treatise was written in the hopes that ou government will equal ize and simplify our present tax system; for if anything under heaven should be easy to do no, it should be the filling out of a tax report." (Practically all taxpayers tax-payers say Amen.) The forepart of the treatise consists con-sists of questions on tax deductions, deduc-tions, answered in a humorous vein. Then follows "The Story of Hidden Taxes," "The Story of Larry," "A short-short resume of some thumbnail sketches of short-short short-short dehydrated tax stories." Mr. Simmons also includes a simplified federal income tax return re-turn cut down to 24 lines. The author has received complimentary comp-limentary expressions from tax officials and writers from all parts of the country and has been invited to contribute articles to a number of publications devoted to the field of taxation. The tax guide is for sale at news stands for 50 cents. The Utah Valley Publishing company did the printing. Student Directories To Be Distributed Brigham Young university student stu-dent directories will go on sale during the first day of registration registra-tion for the winter quarter, Jan. 7. according to Marian Owens of Provo, chairman of the White Key committee, in charge. The directory is an annual project pro-ject of the White Keys, upper-class upper-class women's ervice sorority.
