At Phoenix, Phoe-nix, he is to, become a student flyer at the Sky Harbor airport. , Y Junior Prom Sets New High In Charming- Social Graces In marking the Junior prom from their social calendars, cal-endars, members of the class might well be proud of Friday evening's charming function. The stately setting of the Joseph Smith building, scene of the highlight formal event at Brigham Young university, provided a real austere background for the year's outstanding outstand-ing ball. . . - Two hundred couples danced to the music of an all-campus all-campus orchestra, as colored spotlights gleamed on the beautifully beau-tifully gowned young ladies. "Reflections" was the theme carried out in decorations and programs. A large mirrored ball suspended from the ceiling reflecting myriads of col-'S) ; . ; ored lights on the ballroom. - Reflections in water were shown with a shimmering waterfall water-fall and tiny fountain in one end. A large silver ' emblem, bearing "43," was hung against the background back-ground of wine velvet curtains on one side of the ball. Potted flowers were set in tiny window- ' boxes, and potted palms and ferns were ; placed around the walls. At 8 o'clock the receiving line formed in the reception room. A stake queen wiU be selected from the following group of ward queens: Agnes Madsen, Second ward; Virginia Dixon, Third; Florence Adams, Fourth; Lillian Christensen, Sixth, and Gloria Beck, Pioneer. Voting for the queen will close at 9:30 o'clock, and the crowning of the queen will take place immediately after the floor show, which begins at 9 o'clock. Thomas presented the subject: "What America May Expect," and later, the women entered into discussion. Mrs. Howard Olsen, president, opened the meeting which was in charge of Mrs. Ledger Free, member mem-ber of the program committee. " , , Vineyard Ward Dinners Attended By Large Crowds Members of the Vineyard ward were, banqueted in great style at the annual reunion held in the ward hall Friday afternoon and evening. ' The Primary association had charge of the children's dinner in the afternoon, at which 145 youngsters were served. Games and dancing followed. In the evening, 271 adult members mem-bers of the ward were served at tables gay with red, white and blue tapers, and cut flowers. Dancing was the main feature of entertainment and Joy Clegg .led in community singing. Mrs. Gark Newell Is Bridge Hostess . Mrs. Clark Newell was hostess to members of the Triple Four Bridge club Friday afternoon at her home, the card" game following follow-ing a well arranged luncheon served serv-ed at 2 o'clock. Defense stamps were given as favors, Mrs. Fred Stubbs winning the high score. favor and Mrs. H. A. Smoot, the second prize.
