Commission members are John Evans of Lehi, acting chairman; Layton ,Maxfield of Delta, and Lester A. Blackner of Salt Lake City. Mr. Blackner is the Republican Repub-lican member of the commission.' The commission faces a strenuous strenu-ous task in its work of carrying out projects now under way, and in planning other necessary improvements im-provements and construction on the strategic highways of the state as well as the improvement of those roads that are more local in character. The federal government is planning plan-ning a vast road improvement program and bills for the appropriation appro-priation of the necessary funds are already before congress. Utah will share in this road improvement program because of its importance as-a connecting link between the east and the west coasts. Work must be rushed during the construction con-struction season as mountain road building in the winter time is pratically an impossibility. The commission expects to name a chief engineer in the neat future to succeed Ezra C. Knowl-ton Knowl-ton who resigned as chief engineer engi-neer to enter the service of the government. H. S.
