" The parents of the young couple headed the receiving line, which included, in addition to the wedded pair, Miss La Von Gurr, sister of the bride, as maid of honor, and the bridesmaids, Mrs. R. A. Clayton, sister of the groom, and the bride's sisters, Beth and Wanda Gurr, Mrs. Margaret G. Hamblin and Mrs. Delia G. Baum. Howard C. Mackay of Salt Lake City, brother of the groom, was best man. - The bride, wore a handsome gown of white satin, and her fingertip veil of tulle fell from a crown of pearls. She carried pink roses and lily-of-the-valley, tied with pink satin ribbon. Miss La-Von La-Von Gurr was in blue taffeta, Mrs. Gurr, in a Scarlett O'Hara model of pale pink shalley, Miss .Beth in pink organdy; Miss Wanda, peach marquisette; Mrs". Hamblin, blue marquisette and Mrs. Baum in coral taffeta. They wore corsages of roses and sweet peas. Oliver Hansen was master of ceremonies' and the following program pro-gram was enjoyed during the evening eve-ning of dancing and refreshments: Solo, Miss Margaret Clayton of Midvale; solo, Scott Peterson; tap dance, Colleen Wilkins; reading, Miss Gladys Hurst. Mrs. Amanda Daley, Mrs. Preal Jones and Mrs. Olive Hansen were in charge of the gifts. Mr. and Mis. Mackay will live in Provo. Past Matrons -Hotel Viking" Novel Theme In Session Mrs. J. G. Strickley and Mrs. B. H. Bower were hostesses to members of the Past Matrons Circle Cir-cle of O. E. S. at the Strickley home Friday afternoon. The women made favors for the Job's Daughters' rally being planned plan-ned for June. A business meeting Was held and refreshments were served. Those present were Mrs. H. F. Cannon, Mrs. T. J. Among the more important functions enjoyed by members of the' younger set this week end, was the annual spring invitational held by the B. Y. U. Vikings for their lady friends, Saturday evening eve-ning at the Women's gym. "Hotel Vikine" was the theme of the semi-formal, attended byj 150 couples who were omigea to register as they made their way through the typical "hotel lobby." Further carrying out the theme', an ultra-modern cocktail lounge was featured. At intermission, inter-mission, the unit quartet sang the "Sweetheart" song. Patrons and patronesses were Dr. and Mrs. Franklin S. Harris, Dean and Mrs. Wesley P. Lloyd, John H. Wing, unit sponsor, and Mrs. Wing, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Rounds of Ogden, and Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Williams of, Ogden. Committee members included: Kent Rounds, chairman; George Hill, Rex HaU, Elden Clark and Thurman Thorpe. Officers of the unit are Dean Williams, president; Ray Ostlund, vice president; Frank Gardner, secretary; Wilson Hales, treasurer: treasur-er: Harold Bandley reporter, and Morgan Greenwood, athletic manager. Christenson of Orem, June 20, in New Orleans. Mr. Christenson is with the FBI. A profusion of spring flowers decorated the entertaining rooms. Robert Johnson read the play, "Hamlet," after which delicious refreshments were served. A variety var-iety of gifts delighted the bride-to-be. Recent Bride Complimented "Feathering Your Nest" was the, theme of a delightful bridal shower show-er given by Mrs. Maurice Harding Friday evening at her home, to honor Mrs. Wood row Dennett, the former Lola Clark. A pink and white decorative scheme predominated, peonies, sweet peas and bridal wreath ber ing employed. The book, "The Girl of the Golden Gold-en West," was reviewed by Miss Kleene Wiltbank, Mrs. J. E. By-bee By-bee sang, aHd Mrs. Charles Johnson John-son played a cello solo, accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. C. H. Davies. A tasty luncheon was served to 40 guests, and as favors, dainty handkerchiefs tied with bridal bouquets bou-quets were given. Beautiful gifts were presented to the young, bride. Strate Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Earl Stevens of El Paso, Texas, announce the engagement of their daughter, Florence, to First Lieutenant Sterling J. Strate, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred C Strate of Provo. The wedding of the couple will be held June 7, in Santa Barbara, Calif. Lieutenant Strate is stationed with the 145th Field Artillery at Camp San Luis Obispo. The bride-elect's family and her fiance's family, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Peterson of Provo, will drive to California for the wedding. Miss Stevens was graduated from Austin high school and attended the Brigham Young university, where she was a senior this year. She war a member of the O. S. Trovata social unit and the White Key service organization. Lieutenant Strate was student body president at B. Y, U. this year. He fcft the university in March to fill his commission with' the Utah National Guard. He was a member of the Viking social unit and the Alpha Kappa Psi commercial fraternity. After a honeymoon trip on the west coast, the couple will return to Santa Barbara to make their home. Readers' Guild j At Fine Meet ui interesting session of the Readers' Guild was held Friday afternoon at the Harry Olsen home,' with the president, Miss Irma Acord, as hostess. Mrs. Morris Clinger gave a fine Teview of "I Wanted to Be an Actress," autobiography by Katharine Kath-arine Cornell. She supplemented ber program with sketches of interesting in-teresting theatrical experiences of the following contemporary actors and actresses: Fontainne and Lunt, Helen Hayes, Burgess " Meredith and Fred Aetaire. Mr. Bonnett is a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Bonnett of Provo. The young couple will be married June 7, in Provo, and will make their home here. Miss Taylor is a graduate of the Provo nigh school and is employed at the Wool-worth Wool-worth store, and Mr. Bonnett, a graduate of the B. Y. U., is employed at the Tri-State Tri-State lumber company. (Stokes) Approaching Marriage Revealed Wednesday, June 4, has been selected by Wilma Wis combe and J. Robert Gillespie Gilles-pie of Edgemont, as ' the date of their wedding in the Salt Lake temple. A reception will be tendered the young couple the evening following, at the home of the bride-elect's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Wiscombe. Mr. Gillespie, is the son of Bishpp and Mrs. Sharp Gil lespie. They plan to live in Edgemont. Miss Wiscombe Is a sophomore at the B. Y. U., and Mr. Gillespie will be graduated gradu-ated with a B. A. degree this spring. He has served a mission in Germany. Wedding Plans for Early June Among the interesting nuptial notes of the season is announcement of the engagement en-gagement and approaching marriage of Ruth R. Hansen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. Emil Hansen, to Arthur V. Wat-kins, Wat-kins, son of President and Mrs. A. V. Watkins of Orem. ' June 6 has been set as the date of marriage, the nuptials to take place in the Salt Lake temple. A reception will be held at f2ie Hansen home the evening of June 7, and the young couple will make their home in Provo. The bride-to-be was graduated from the Lincoln high school and she attended the B- Y. U. for two years. She is employed em-ployed at the Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe company. Mr. Watkins win be graduated from the B. Y. U. in June. A wedding supper followed at the Coll House In Salt Lake, a wedding cake beautifully decorating the table. The young couple will live in Salt Lake City. The bride attended the B. Y. U. and has been employed in the Provo city engineer's en-gineer's office the past three years. Mr. Greene is .employed in Ogden. Y. high school and has recently been employed at the Provo employment office. Mr. Nielsen is a graduate of the Provo high school and lias attended the B. .Y. U. He is now employed by the Utah State highway patrol. (Stokes) Carol Tanner to Marry . Mr. and Mrs. Vasco , M. Tanner of Provo are announcing the engagement of their daughter,. Carol, to Leo Evans Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo F. Smith of this city. The marriage will take place in the St. George temple, May 31 with President Harold Snow performing the ceremony. The parents of the bride-elect were married mar-ried in the St. George temple 24 years ago, and her grandparents were united in marriage there 52 years ago. Miss Tanner is a graduate of the Brigham Yjung university, where she was affiliated with the Fidelas social unit. For the past year she has been assisting in the university library. Mr, Smith was a senior at the B. Y. U. until January, when he left to work in the Lockheed Aircraft corporation at Bur-bank, Bur-bank, Calif. He was a member of the ' Val Hyric social unit, and has filled a two-year mission in Texas. The couple will leave immediately after aft-er their marriage for California, where they will make their home.
