Show PHOVO (UTAH) SUNDAY TIER ALP, SUNDAY, DECEMBER 22, 1940 PAGE FIVE til Twenty - Thirty Members Are Hosts At Gay Yuletide Event As in past years, the Provo 20-30 club's annual Christmas Christ-mas dinner-dance will be remembered as one of the gayest :f the season's top-notch semi-formals. Held in the Hotel Roberts Saturday night, and attended by 35 couples, the party sounded a true "Merry Christmas" for the young set present. A mammoth tree, ladened with tinsel ornaments, lights and other motifs, centered the dining hall, and the tables were lined with small trees, bells and candles. Dainty corsages ffid even more dainty necklaces were given to the ladies as favors. Elmo Peters, president, . welcomed wel-comed the group, and introdi! ed Arthur L. Duckett as toastmaster. The program included a vocal solo, by Harold Brereton; toast, "To the Ladies," Harold Ward; trumpet solo, Jack Tueller; toast, "To the Men," Ted Maynard, and as a finale to. the dinner entertainment, enter-tainment, a dance act by the Fre-dova Fre-dova Dance Studio. Music for dancing was furnished by the Top Hatters. Arrangements for the- mart event wore in charge of Vaagbn Taylor, chairman, assisted by Kenneth Martin, incoming president, presi-dent, and Clyde Ward. LINDON MRS. LAWRENCE WALKER Reporter LINDON Mr. and Mrs. Howard How-ard Christianson and family, of Ogden, were recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Christianson. Officers and teachers of the Fri-mary Fri-mary association entertained the children at a Christmas social at the amusement room at .the school huu-se Friday afternoon. Program, games and refreshments were enjoyed. Mr. and -Mrs. Leonard Fryer and daughter Maxine spent Thursday Thurs-day in Provo. Mrs. Verl Clark (Beth Hooley) va3 the recipient of a miscellaneous miscel-laneous shower, given Monday Evening by Miss Edna Gillman, at the home of Mrs. Clark'sparents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Hooley. Games and delicious refreshments were enioved by forty guests. Mrs. Clark was also tendered an "Aunt Shower" Thursday evening at the Hooley home, at which thirtv-two members participated. The event commemorated his birthday which occurred on the fifteenth of December., Miss Verda Radmall of Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove spent Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Anderson. City Briefs Mr. and Mrs; David E. Pitt (Kathryn Mitchell) of Gridley, Calif, , are spending the holidays in Provo with Mrs. Pitt's mother, Mr3. Katie P. Mitchell. Mr. and Mrs. Tyre KtiNsell and son Roland, arrived in Provo late Friday night from Montgomery, Ala., to spend the Christmas holi-aays holi-aays with Mr. Russell's sister, Mrs. W. E. Berry and family. Also, they will visit his mother, Mrs. A. E. Bradley of Salt Lake City. Mr.' Russell is employed as a livestocK salesman at me Union stockyards in Montgomery. Call (Mildred (Mil-dred Stewart) of Green Forest, Ark., are here to attend the wedding of Mrs. Call's sister, Elayne Stewart, and Gam Storrs, planned for Christmas day at the bride's home. Mr. Call is in government gov-ernment civil service. Mr. and Mrs. George A. Brown have as their house guests until Dec. 26, their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald C Whiting (Myrl Brown) and baby son, Norman, of Rio Tinto, Nev. Reception For Wedded Pair Among last week's important nuptial functions, was the reception recep-tion given by Mrs. Millie Bates of Provo, honoring her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn W. and Glenna Bates Brown, Saturday evening in the Third ward hall. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland Brown of this city, and the young couple were married the day previous in the Salt Lake temple. Pres. Stephen L. Chipman officiated, in the presence pres-ence of the parents and close friends. An evening of dancing was enjoyed en-joyed by 250 guests attending the reception. Christmas trees and pine boughs were featured in the hall decorations. In the receiving line were Mrs. Bates and Mr. and Mrs. Brown, the parents; Stanley Brown, brother of the groom, best man; the groom and bride; Mrs. Marvin Fisher (Georganna Bates) of Park City, sister of the bride, matron of honor; Adrynne Hodson, Deon A. Elliott, Laureen Waterlyn and Lucile Sumsion, bridesmaids. A beautiful gown of white satin was worn by the bride. Two brilliant bril-liant clips held the sweetheart neck, in place and the veil of tulle was edged with lace and fell from a pearl crown. She carried a bouquet bou-quet of white lilies and pink sweet peas. The attendants were in pastel frocks and wore sweet peas and roses. Mrs. Bates was in rose tailor satin, and Mrs. Brown in blue lace and they too, wore roses and sweet peas. Hill Westover was master of ceremonies and a short program was enjoyed. Refreshments were served to the many guests, including in-cluding a number from out-oT-town. Mrs. Lester Taylor presided in the dining room, and Rose Taylor Tay-lor and Louise Thorpe served. Mrs. Milford Curtis and Mrs. Armanell Larsen were in charge of serving. The gifts were received by Deanne Taylor and Rayola Hanseen, and were arranged by Mrs. Louise George, Mrs. Josephine Johnson and Mrs. Bessie Larsen. Paul Bates and Marvin Fisher were ushers. ' Invitation To Happy Hour Dancing Club Members of the Happy Hour Dance club have been invited by Dr. Garland H. Pace, to hold their next dance on January 1 at the Utah State hospital ball room. Each club member may invite two couples to the party. Mrs. Elsie Comaby returned school for two weeks, sponsored by the extension service under the direction of County Agent Boswell. The M. I. A. held a program and dance Wednesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Walter H. Ludlow left for Los Angeles on Saturday Satur-day where they will visit with relatives and friends over the holidays. Mrs. Donna Hansen entertained for the Primary Seagull girls on Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Bowen have a new baby girl born on Sunday. Mrs. Bowen was formerly Cleo Richardson. Elder Eldon Peterson of Lehi, visited with his relatives for thirty minutes between trains at the Salt Lake Union station, Friday morning, en route from the So-ciaty So-ciaty Islands mission to the Texas mission field Elder Peterson was transferred direct from the boat in Los Angeles, Cal. to the Texas field. The Lehi men's recreational WPA classes will begin in the Lehi high school gymnasium, Monday evening, when registra tion will take place. Regular class work will begin Wednesday, January Janu-ary 8, and be held each Wednes day following. : Dean Prior and Arthur Sabey are in charge of the classes. The amusement hall was beautifully decorated with red and green crepe streamers, poinsetta bouquets and holly wreaths. A large Christmas tree was colorful with twinkling lights and at the base the Scene of the nativity was depicted with small models. ( Choral singing was enjoyed by all as well as Christmas games. A delicious tray lunch was served after -which Santa Claus put in hi3 (actually "her") appearance amid the jingle of sleigh bells and distributed generously candy and pop corn balls to all. Each guest also, received a gift from her "pal'' for the year, and upon arrival - each was presented with a holiday corsage of red and green berries. There were 38 women present. The committee in charge consisted of Mrs. Jarvis Avde-lotte. Avde-lotte. Mrs. M. H. Ingersoll. Mrs. Frank Bush, Mrs. G. L. Wootton and Mrs. Joseph L. Dunkley. Santa visited the First ward M. I. A. Tuesday night and gave to each one a treat at the conclusion con-clusion of the pasreant which was presented under the direction of the activity committee headed by Mrs. A. F. Gaisford. The pageant was original, written for the occasion occa-sion by Mrs. La Vonne Brown Carroll. Also, they will visit relatives and friends in Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Ilyrum Smith and son Virgil arrived Saturday from Heber, Arizona, for a two-weeks' holiday visit with their family here. While in Provo they will be guests of their sons.
