Our flag pole was dedicated with i'mpres-sive i'mpres-sive ceremonies Thursday. The flag was presented by Superintendent Superin-tendent Moffitt. The American Legion was in charge of the flag rais-ug ceremony. The singing was under the direction of Mrs. Reeve. We sang America and the Star Spangled Banner. Prayer was offered by Wallace Wayman. Legion Le-gion chaplain. Dean Keller gave a talk on "The history of the Flag." The entire school stood at attention as the Boy Scout Color Guard consisting of Ralph Prusse, Velo Barrett, and Richard Clow- ard raised the flag. Mrs. Algie Ballif of the board of education pave a reading on the meaning of the flag. About fifteen visitors witnessed the dedication. SCHOOL TOPICS In Mr. Rigby's room we have been studying of China and Japan. We iust started studying the British Brit-ish Isles. We find it very interesting inter-esting to read and talk about. We found Great Britain just two small islands, though thev control about one fourth of the world. Some of the children brought reports re-ports on it and read them to the Hass. In my opinion it is a very interesting subject LaDene Markman. NEW EVENTS Tn Mr. Riebv's room each morning morn-ing since school started last fall we have had news events. They help us to find out what is going on in the world. All kinds of news events were received. Thev have r roved very interesting and enioyahle. We are going to continue con-tinue them for the rest of the year. Helen Clegg. From "School News" Keith Pearce, Carl Hawkins, editors. Obituaries Charles W. Bucklar OREM Charles W. Bucklar, 57, resident of Wallsburg for nine years, died at a Prove hospital Saturday morning, after a three weeks' illness. He was born on the little Colorado, Arizona, July 27, 1880, the son of George and Jane Fant Bucklar. When he was 25 years old the family moved ta Provo bench, where he worked as a farm hand until he went to Wallsburg. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. J. J. Jenkins of Logan and Mrs. Alfred Skinner of Orem, and two brothers, John M. Bucklar, Buck-lar, Circleville and George T. Rogers, Joseph City, Arizona. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 In the Timpano-gos Timpano-gos ward chapel with Bishop Roy Gappmeyer in charge. Interment will be in the Provo burial park. Fr'.ends may call at the Olpin Brothers mortuary, Pleas ant Grove Sunday and at the Alfred Skinner home, three-fourths mile west of the Lincoln high school, Monday prior to the services. Three Injured in Payson Auto Crash PAYSON When an oncoming car drove off the Orem railroad viaduct' here without its driver noting - their approaching car, two Spanish Fork residents were injured in-jured Thursday evening. Mrs. Annie Matley was taken to Payson city hospital suffering from a deep forehead gash, concussion con-cussion and shock. Her daughter, Nellie, Nebo district primary school supervisor, also suffered from shock. Mrs. Edna Baker Mrs. Edna Westphal Baker, 40. wife of Moroni Baker, former Provo residents, died in Bakers-field, Bakers-field, Calif., Feb. 24, after a brief illness from pneumonia. Mrs. Baker was the daughter of Mrs. Josephine Peterson Westphal. West-phal. now of Bakersfield, and the late Jacob Westphal, who was killed in an auto crash last fall. Surviving are her husband, two sons and one daughter. Funeral services will be held in Bakersfield Monday, according to word received here by an uncle, C A. Petersen. NEWS OF TILE PLAY Last week wan a busy week for the fourth and fifth grades for thev were going to have a plnv. The name of the fourth grade play was "Happiness Kidnaped" Kid-naped" and the name of the fifth erade plav was a "George Washington Wash-ington Play." They were held in the Maeser school auditorium Friday. Fri-day. Feb. IS. 1938. The first, second, and third grades saw the plav in the morning.
