PROVCT (UTAH) SUNDAY HERALD SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1938 I 5- v - c Rotarians Tendered Smart Dinner Party By Rotary-Anns Rotary-Anns did themselves proud Friday evening when they were hostesses to their husbands, the Rotarians, atra delightful dinner party and informal entertainment at the residence of Dr. and Mrs. Garland H. Pace on East Center street. Never has these been a more enjoyable Rotary party, according to the old-timers, who have been attending these annual get-togethers for many years. There was a note of informality throughout, and nothing had been left undone by the ladies to make the event a pleasurable one. Deep red snapdragons, together with a variety of ferns, were used in decorating the dining and living rooms, in which the small tables were set for the - 7 o'clock dinner. Rotary lapel buttons were given to the men as favors; also, they .were presented with carnation boutonnieres. During the dinner hour Miss Francell Christensen entertained with beautiful selections on the marimba. Sidney W. Russell, president of the Provo chamber of commerce, and Mrs. Russell, were special guests, and covers were laid for nearly 40 couples. Immediately following the dinner. din-ner. Mrs. Frank J. Earl and T. C. Larson commenced with their humorous sketches, which included most of the Rotarians. Under the direction of Ernest Paxman of the Provo high school, a group of girls sang three lovely number?. "Sympathy," "Tht Sweetest Story Ever Told." and "Out of the Dusk." The personnel included: Ruth Cunningham, Louise Bullock, Louise Johnson, Ann Slick, Carol Hatch and Afton Madsen, with Marjorie Spalding as accompanist. accompan-ist. Mrs. Hannah C. Packard followed fol-lowed with three lovely vocal solos. "June Is In My Heart." "Daddy's Sweetheart." and "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life." Mrs. Raymond Richan was at the piano. The group was then entertained by William M. Wilson, well-known magician, and his assistant, Frank Smith, who performed one act of magic after another in rapid succession, suc-cession, much to the delight of the guests. At the close of the party the ladies were presented with beautiful beau-tiful gifts from the men, each one different, but all tied with the Rotary colors. Mrs. Fred R. Taylor was general gen-eral chairman on arrangements, and among those assisting were: Mrs. Jack Braunagel. Mrs. S. J. ,'ones, Mrs. George Hansen, Mrs. 11. Pace, Mrs. Elden Clark. Mrs. Frank J. Earl. Mrs. Lawrence Maycock. Mrs. Blaine Ward and Mrs. H. B. Mensel. ; ;fc :'c Formal Dinner And Dancing Function A formal dinner-dance was tendered ten-dered by the B. Y. U. Ag. club Friday evening at Keelev.s, covers cov-ers being laid for 60 guests. A Washington's birthday idea was earned out in the decorations, decora-tions, "the table being attractive with red and white carnations, red candles and favors. A short program was presented. Birthday Party Given By Friends A small group of friends tendered tend-ered a delightful surprise puty on Doris Gren. honoring h.-r fifteenth fif-teenth birthday anniversary. Friday Fri-day evening at her home. The honor guest received many lovely gifts. Games were played and a delicious- luncheon served to the following: Margaret Wilson. Mary Beth Thurgood, Gloria Beck. Chrystal Rasmussen. Mary La-Dean La-Dean Hansen, Janet Nerds and Doris Gren. Dancing Party Is Successful A large crowd attended the ;:ion and overall dance given in the Third ward hall Friday evening- by the Scandinavians of Provo. Dancing L.lub Party Is Enjoyed The Happy Hour Dancing club members enjoyed a dancing party at the State hospital ballroom Saturday Sat-urday evening, the affair proving one of the most delightful social functions of the week end. The Arcadians furnished the music for dancing. A number of supper parties followed the dance. New Officers For Nelke Mrs. Nellie C. Miss Peterson was assisted in entertaining by Mrs. Bailey, and before the business session, Mrs. Henrichsen gave a fine review of Sidney Kingsley's book, "Dead I Love Life," and she and Ferris Edgley sang "Will You Remember." Public Invited To Card Party The public is cordially invited to attend a card party for both men and women, which is being given by the Catholic Women's League Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock at the parish hall. Lewis Ladies' Store "It's Smart To Be Thrifty" Provo, Utah Fifth Ward Old Folks' Dinner A delicious chicken dinner was served 65 old folks of the Fifth ward Friday noon at the meeting house, the guest list also including the widows and widowers of the ward and the parents of the laboring labor-ing missionaries. Alex Mortensen, chairman on arrangements, reports the affair to be equally as delightful as any old folks' parties held in the ward during the past 18 years. Four long tables were set, and were prettily decorated with ;lowcrs and fern, featuring a yellow, yel-low, white and green color scheme. After dinner, with Mr. Morten-sen Morten-sen presiding, the following program pro-gram was presented: Selection, gills chorus from the Provo high school; vocal solo. Mrs. Max Jones; accordion solo, Miss Hazel Palfrey man; community singing, led by Mrs. Max Jones; reading, Miss Maurine Moffitt talk, City Commissioner Jesse Haws, Utah take old folks' chairman; solo. Mrs. Howard Dyer; talk, Bishop V. O. Facer: community singing. Mrs. Terry Oakley was accompanist accom-panist during the afternoon. U. council, Friday evening at Hotel Roberts, the Logan group furnishing the assembly program at the university Friday morning. The second offering of the M-I. M-I. A. Arts Programme, to be presented pre-sented Wednesday evening at 7:30 o'clock in the First ward hall, gives promise to being one of the i-est evenings of entertainments in Provo fer a ling time. Those who are acquainted with Mrs. Christen Jensen and have iollowed her choice literary programs pro-grams from university assemblies, churches and organization programs, pro-grams, at schools and in club sessions ses-sions can vouch for Wednesday night's program being a highlight high-light of the arts course. At that time, Mrs. Jensen, a member of the extension division faculty of the B. Y. U., will trace her four-month voyage around the world, taken with her husband in 1936. making 'stops" at Hawaii, Japan. China, Bah, India, and Lhrough the Red Sea to Europe. As she describes her voyage, she will give literary readings characteristic of those countries, dhe has made a life study of literature liter-ature and possesses a natuial tal- nt ioi plt-amg ana enlightening her audiences. Sunday School Class Party The Church History class of the Sixth ward Sunday school, was entertained by Mrs. Charles F. Thompson at her home Friday evening.
