Springville walked ovei Payson, 19-7 and Lincoln lost a heart-breaker to American Fork, 7-0. Feature game was the Lincoln-American Lincoln-American Fork tussle, in Which the scrappy little Tigers outplayed outplay-ed their larger opponents throughout through-out the first quarter and during much of the remaining time. In the first quarter Lincoln recovered an American Fork fumble fum-ble in midfield. Harold Nielsen rammed through the line to the 25-yard marker with some well-executed well-executed line bucks. Captain Reed Gillespie then got away for a dash to the one-yard line, with the goal practically within reach. An official called the play back, however, and penalized Lincoln 15 yards for holding. That was the ball game for the Tigers. American Fork drove over for a touchdown late in the second quarter. Giant Grant Hickes scored, scor-ed, and Magleby placekicked the extra point. Edwards Stars-Coach Stars-Coach Don Dixon's Tigers played play-ed fine ball, making up theii weight handicap in fight and spirit. Don Edwards, center, was the outstanding lineman on the field, tackling and blocking in splendid fashion. Norman Smith also played a whale of a game. Gillespie and Nielsen were standouts stand-outs in the backfield. For American Amer-ican Fork. Hicks and McCallister were outstanding. Spanish Fork scored practically at will over Pleasant Grove. The Vikings surprised by pushing over two touchdowns of their own account. Offensively, the Spaniards Span-iards looked the part of region champions. Springville exhibited a potent attack in crushing Payson. The Red Devils pushed over touchdowns touch-downs in the first, second and final quarters. Payson's only six-pointer six-pointer was registered in the third period. The game was hard-fought, hard-fought, with Springville clearly asserting superiority, despite desperate des-perate play of the scrappy Lions. Peg Lincoln Wells . . American Fork .le .... The victory stamps Provo as one of the strongest teams in the Southern division, Class A league, as Cyprus recently took Granite high to the cleaners, 7-0. The Pirates, coached by Russell Rus-sell Magleby, former B. Y. U. star, showed a powerful line, but bogged upon three occasions as the alert Bulldogs pulled touchdown touch-down plays. A sustained first quarter drive placed the pigskin within the Cyprus Cy-prus 10-yard line. As the second period opened, Co-Captain Gordon Gor-don Billings tossed a short pass to Wesley Carter, Bulldog end, Vhp galloped across the line. Owen Dixon's line buck failed to net the extra point. Damlco Shakes Loose- When the' third quarter opened the Bulldogs charged down the field for two touchdowns in rapid succession. Frof his own 26-yard line Harold Damico ran the ball 71 yards to the Cyprus three-yard three-yard stripe before Co-Captain Rex Spears, Pirate1 guard, hauled him down. Picking a hole opened by his blockers, Damico sliced into the clear, then raced goalward with a quartet of Pirates in pursuit. pur-suit. , With the pigskin on the three-yard line, Gordon Billings drove over the score. Owen Dixon placekicked the ' extra point. Hardly had play been resumed when Dixon got away on a 53-yard 53-yard gallop for another touchdown. touch-down. He shook off two would-be tacklers near the 10-yard line and outran two more to the goal. Co-Captain Gordon Mitchell's placement faiied. Aerials Fall The remainder of the contest was waged in midfield. Cyprus opened up with a dangerous aerial aer-ial attack, but the Pirates could not work Within 25 yards of the Provo goal. Stellar play ty Nelson, tackle, and Hancock, center, featured the work of Provo's forward wall. Mitchell reeled off numerous long gains from halfback position, as did Billings. Dixon directed the team well. Don Bandley, who relayed at left halfback with Damico, turned in a good performance. perfor-mance. For Cyprus, Co-Captain Spears was in on almost every play. The large Pirate backs, Duckworth, Duck-worth, Ridd. Barton and Henderson Hender-son were strong, both on offense and defense. Provo plays a league game with Davis at Kaysville next Friday. Fri-day.
