Police Chief James E. Davis of Los Angeles todav began a roundup of "undesirable "unde-sirable characters" within the city proper. The Los Angeles police officers stationed from near the Oregon line to the Mexican border unofficially, unof-ficially, however, were reported to have turned back less than 100 'bums" lured to California by the mild climate. I Backstage With The "Y" Players BY FAY OLLEKTON "Taming of the Shrew," which delighted so many out-of-town visitors during Leadership Week was a Theta Alpha Phi production. produc-tion. By actual count, 1789 no round numbers) persons attended the two performances on Wednesday Wednes-day night of the big week and hundreds were turned away. Some visitors even spent two hours looking at the stuffed animals in the next building and then didn't get a seat. But the Theta Alph-ians Alph-ians will give a performance for Provo people on February 27, the night before the Junior Prom. As a curtain riser they will play the balcony scene from "Romeo and Juliet." As yet your correspondent correspond-ent hasn't been able to learn who will play the lovers, but with re hearsals starting, it shouldn't be hard. Margaret Tholen and Blanche Broadhead designed and made the costumes for "The Shrew." After Shakespeare is off the boards the dramatic fraternity will give its spring play. There has been some talk of "The Bad Man" but the last word Y. C. had was that he was not to be chosen. Rehearsals have been going on for some time on the competitive play, "Night Over Taos." Much more will be said of it later. Just now it suffices that the play is by Maxwell Anderson, America's best playwright, at least in the opinion of V. C. and the cast is the best to be found in the university. "Theater Arts Monthly" and "Players' Magazine" have both asked Professor T. Earl Pardoe to send pictures of this year's plays. Tt is quite likely that scenes from "Counsellor-at-Law," "Petei Ibbetson," and the forthcoming forth-coming production of "The Wild Duck," February 10 and 11, will go to these magazines. Strawberry Water Report Favorable SPANISH FORK According to Clifford W. Jex, Spanish Fork river water commissioner, the Strawberry reservoir held available avail-able for irrigation on Feb. 1, 10,290 acre feet of water, an increase in-crease of 760 l-eet over a year ago and three times as much water as was available on Feb. 1. 1934. The inflow since Oct. 1, has been 5.042 acre feet. This is 902 acre feet more than the inflow for the corresponding cor-responding period in 1935. and 6990 feet over the inflow during the winter of 1934. The unusual wetness of the month of January accounts for the additional water as the January inflow was 3.040 acre feet as compared with 1,140 acre feet a year ago and 1,760 acre feet in January 1934. The snow on wliat is known as the Strawberry key course is a little lighter as of Feb. 1, than it was on the corresponding date in 1935, the figures being 31.6 inches of snow this year as compared with 35.3 inches of snow on Feb. I 1, 1935. The water content this 1 year is 7.50 inches as compared with 9.87 for last year. In 1944 j on the same course there was j 27.7 inches of snow with a water ' content of 6.90 inches. The great-i great-i est average depth of snow on this j course in recent years was in 1932 i when on Feb. 1. there was 60.6 inches with a water content of 14 inches.
