I ; Sheep And Property With the approach of spring there comes again the menace men-ace of sheep trailing through our city in their annual transfer trans-fer from winter to summer ranges. There is no route by " which these sheep can be taken from the winter to the summer sum-mer range or vice versa without-passing through th streets of Provo. -: '. ; v : ' " Realizing the necessity of designating a route over which' it was thought sheep might be driven through the city with the least damage to property owners, a former city commission com-mission designated Seventh East street from Third South to Eighth North thence west to the canyon road. Thatvas done before south Seventh East street was as thicldy populated popu-lated as it is now, and also before that street was paved and otherwise improved and beautified. .. rDuring the past week several herds) of sheep have been i driven over this route with the result that .much damage was done to lawns, flowers and shrubbery. Such - damage naturally na-turally brings forth, a chorus of protests from, property own-ta own-ta urtin hiiva anonf rmirh timp And 'rnonev in an effort to VtW If tV . t. V WS.tr - ,w beautify their surroundings. V iThey appealed; to the city officials for protection, but since there appears to be no law whereby these herds can be - excluded from. passing through the city, there is little that ; they can do. ' ' The only recourse left is civil action against-the owners of sheep that do damage to property. We believe greater L care should be exercised by the sheep men to prevent herds from trespassing on, private property. Additional nsip should be engaged by them to prevent this continual destruction destruc-tion of nroDertv. t If this is not orovided and such neffiicrencc continues s has' been evidenced during therpast few days, citizens injured wilt b; justified in asserting their rights in the courts. A few such actions might influence the sheep men to transfer, their lierds over, the railroads where special cheap rates have been provided in order to make it possible for them to move their flocks from" onerange to the other safely and economically. . ! Such a method of transporting sheep would certainly prove much more satisfactory to the general public, and would save the bounties and cities thrpugh which they pass much delay aid expense , caused by damage to roads and other property. ' , . ; .. . jOhservcUions i Another sign, of spring is when people who brag they take kcold showers every morning of the year, really start taking them. " - .. X Howdy, folks!
