Armstrong Looks Dull in Winning Over Arizmendi LOS ANGELES, Jan. 11 r.R --There --There were few cheers and sparse praise today for hustling Henry Armstrong's dlecisive but uninspired unin-spired triumph over Baby Arizmendi Ariz-mendi of Tampico, Mex. STRIKES TO SPARE By DON BEATY World All-Events Champion Most bowlers develop a hook after they have mastered a straight ball to the one-three pocket. Wrist action provides the hook. I prepare to put English on the ball by turning my wrist in the backswing and obtain my hook simple by turning it back with a slight twist on delivery. Most keglers get the hook by giving the ball a small turn from right to left and only a fair amount of speed, with the ball dropping off the thumb first as the fingers give it the English. A short breaking "hook. . . . from right to left. . . is the most popular pop-ular of all styles of talis because be-cause of its effectiveness and the ease with which it is controlled. con-trolled. It can be handled to the best advantage by placing it farther in from the right-hand corner of the alley. Its effectiveness depends cpon the kegler's ability to point it properly. I've been fortunate in that I've always had a natural hook. Coach Dave Crowton has been working his charges through the fundamentals and the main string seems in good shape for the contest. con-test. The only thing theWildcats lack is height. They are as good as any team in the league at shooting but lacking height don't get as many chances at the hoop. Names Starters Crowton will .likely start Tom Pardoe and Stan Durrant, two fast boys who are quite a bit under the six foot mark, at the forward positions, po-sitions, Ledger Free, at center and Ted Taylor and Johnson at guards. Taylor and Johnson are the only regulars from last year. They make up oijie of the strongest guard lines in the division and may be able to stave off P. G.'s giants. Provo handed the Pleasant Grove crew their first defeat last week end so the vikings will be out for no let downs. Another loss at this stage of play will drop either P. G. or the "Y" team from any hopes of an Alpine title. FAST GAMES ON TAP TONIGHT Three tough games are lined up for tonight in the Commercial league. Orem tackles Spear Lumber Lum-ber in the opener at 7 o'clock, Hayward's meets CCC at 8 o'clock and Leven's is set against 20-30 at 9. Most of the squads seem well matched for the first games. Leven's is the defending champ and has another strong lineup to throw in against the five other outfits. All games are scheduled for the Third ward gym and the public is invited to attend free of charge.
