Utah Uoters to Pass On School Fund Amendments SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 18 H'.K) Utah's electorate had before it today two constitutional amendments, amend-ments, which if approved next election, will permit establishment of a new school equalization fund, the measures, house resolutions four and five, were passed late yesterday by the senate without opposition. The measures will provide for creation of a new fund to be known as the uniform school fund, the legislature, under provision of the bills, will be permitted to distribute the fund, in any manner seen fit. The amendments will divert some of the revenue now going into the present school fund into the new fund. Reasons are to "'et idditional revenues and to permit broader distribution of state aid to school districts. Revenue from the permanent school fund at present goes into the district school fund, raised mostly by state property levies, permanent school fund revenue 1 however, is not used to increase the amount of the district school fund but to reduce the levy nec-r"?a-y to raise Sf5 per school child which is paid out annually an-nually from tne district .school fund. While the permanent fund is apportioned on a population basis, the uniform school fund would be distributed on a basis of actual ned if the legislature desired. In this manner, it would bring poorer districts up to standard Junior colleges and colleges would come under its provisions. A bill which will rehabilitate the almost exhausted Firemen's Pension fund was passed in the senate on third and final reading. The measure provides that firemen fire-men wiJj contribute two per cent of their salaries to the fund and divert 10 per cent of the life insurance in-surance premium tax to the same fund until it is built up to $100,000. Repeal of the long and .short haul provisions of the interstate commerce act was opposed in a house memorial to congress passed by the senate.
