July 9 ir.R Thomas Meighan, 57. star of th silent films who was fighting for a comeback in the talkies,, died at his home here last night. He hadrteelvin critical condition condi-tion for three weeks of an illness which he had suffered for two years. At his side were his wife, Mrs. Frances Ring Meighan, his brother. broth-er. James, his sister. Miss May Meighan, and Mrs. Leon Errol, wife of the actor. His illness interrupted a fight to reclaim his former place in the theater bright lights. He re-Hired re-Hired from pictures in 1927, after 11 years as a star, to enter business busi-ness in the Florida real estate boom. He returned to make a few more pictures between 1927 and 1929, then retired again. He made more pictures in 1931 and waited untl last year to produce his' last one. "Peck's Bad Boy," which reestablished re-established him as a box office attraction. at-traction. Surviving, besides his widow and the brother and sister at his bedside when he died, are two other brothers and another sister: John Meighan of Pittsburgh and William J. Meighan of Hagers-town. The construction superintendent, Verne Clawson and his aids gave a very thorough demonstration as to the efficiency of the new plant and the boys left with an entirely new slant on the power situation. After having gone from the bottom bot-tom to the top of the buildings Mr Clawson was host to the "gang" in giving them an ice cream bust which is always dear and near to a CCC boy's heart, that is, his love for ice cream.
