An entirely new shop, especially equipped for this production, embodies the latest lat-est types of modern machine tools, lathes, jigs and fixtures which will insure interchangeability of parts. Well Designed Pacific States hydrants and valves are designed by a staff of engineers who have had 35 years of experience in the designing and development of some of the leading lead-ing makes of gate valves and hydrants now in use, the manufacturer manufac-turer states. The features of construction con-struction that have already been tried and proven are incorp-, orated. Pacific States gate valves are of the parallel seat, double disc type and have straightway openings open-ings the full diameter of the connecting con-necting pipe. They are suitable for water, steam, gas or oil, and are made in standard sizes of 2 inch and up, for low, medium, or heavy pressures with any style of end connection, such as : Standard Stand-ard hubs, flanged or screwed ends, McWane patented precalked joint hubs. They are resigned and constructed con-structed to meet the need of every type of service. Set New Record A new record for men employed was established during 1935 at the Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe plant just south of Provo, and the year rounded out showing more man-hours of work than in any calendar year of the plant's existence ex-istence of nearly 10 years. At the peak of operation more than 400 men were on the payroll. The company closed a very active act-ive year considering general conditions. condi-tions. Affected very materially by the Public Works and Works Progress Administrations, the number of contracts supplied with its products prod-ucts cast iron pipe and fittings, gate valves, hydrants, ets., has set a new mark for numbers, if not for volume. Depending upon a continuation of federal assistance to preferred public works, the outlook for 1936 ought to be reassuring. The local consequences of normal operations, opera-tions, which means considerable employment, directly and indirectly, indi-rectly, justify the hope that this industry will continue through 1936 at as good pace as it did during dur-ing the year just past. Editor Herald: The Provo chamber of commerce is an institution with a membership member-ship of wide-awake, public spirited businessmen who, busy with their own affairs are also willing to contribute con-tribute much of their time, means and experience toward the betterment better-ment of the community of which they form a most important part. No city can hope to grow and develop as it should unless it has behind it the Will, courage and determination of its citizens, as is exemplified by a well organized chamber of commerce with but one idea before it and that is, to make their community one of the brighest stars in the firmament firma-ment of advancing civilization. The writer wishes to Join with the good people of this city in hearty and sincere congratulations to the membership of the Provo chamber for the rapid fire manner in which it worked to secure for this city the million and a half dollar plant of the Utah Power and Light 'company. This it did and did well in the face of more or less embarrassing , complications. complica-tions. Our chamber of commerce should be the very heart and soul of the community; made so by the unselfish support of our smaller business institutions as well as our larger ones. The public mind should be made up to work unitedly united-ly and aggressively, devoid of all personal, sectional and factional differentials, it will then not be long until Provo will get those things that she so urgently needs to make of her one of the finest little cities of this great western empire.
