Robinson, who has , played roles ranging from light j comedy to heavy tragedy on the ' stage, but who has become "typed in pictures through his very sue- cessful impersonation of "Little Caesar," appears in his first serio- i comic screen characterization as star of Columbia's "The Whole t Town's Talking," showing now at the Crest theatre. Having finally achieved the beginning be-ginning of a diversity of roles, which is vital to the career of every character actor, Robinson was asked at a recent interview how an actor with a distinct type of face could achieve such a wide range of characterization, without recourse to makeup and costuming. costum-ing. "Characterization," he pointed out, "is not a maftei of facial grimaces; of overemphasized gestures ges-tures or tricks. It isn't a matter of externals at all. It is entirely a matter of mind. "Think as the character would think; project yourself into the' part. The scriptures say: 'As a man thinketh, so he is,' and it is entirely true of characterization. Think your emotions and they will come out on your face. The actual milscular change is so slight that it can hardly be defined, but the expression, mainly through the eyes, is there." In "The Whole Town's Talking," Efobinson is supported by an excellent excel-lent cast including Jean Arthur, Wallace Ford, Arthur Hohl, Arthur Ar-thur Byron and Etienne Girardot.
