In the English section of the Leadership week activities at Brig-ham Brig-ham Young University, Prof. Alici; Reynolds on Tuesday dealt with the topic, The Drama in Our Times." Prof. Reynolds pointed out that the drama of today is realistic. It has passed definitely from the. melodrama to the dream of realism, real-ism, even the melodrama where it exists taking on characteristics of realism in its stage settings; characters char-acters and dialogue. For a season all features of the plan specialized on a very rigid type of realism, but along with the realistic play we have had plays of phantasy and Imagination, Im-agination, such as "Peter Pan," "The Blue Bird," "Chanticleer," etc. Some of our newer plays, said-Prof, said-Prof, Reynolds, are not so greatly interested in realism as they are in revealing the larger spiritual values of life, as is seen in "Death Takes a HnHrfv" . The new stage craft is presenting j picture a syntnesis or ail the arts to the end of revealing in fullness and completness the drama at hand. The critics are not a few who feel that only once in the history of dramatic art, in England, has the present output been surpassed. They still yield the palm to the immortal im-mortal Shakespeare, whose characterizations charac-terizations and dialogue has not yet, been reached by others. Yet barring bar-ring only the name of the bard immortal, im-mortal, they say both England and America is producing the. greatest drama today it has ever produced. ., TV . te dmtk taw. & T.
